  • Ali speaks about fighting Marciano - ''Marciano would be the most trouble''

According to Ali.. Marciano would be a greater threat to him than Joe Louis among other ATG.. Saying Marciano is a dangerous opponent, even for him, because he is a ''has no style'' kind of brawler and can take a hell of a beating.

How do you think Marciano would stand up to Ali in a 15 round fight prime for prime? Personly, the only real outcome I see is Ali dancing around him for 15 rounds making Marciano look like a fool...

Yes, saw it a while back. Styles make fights. Marciano could be tough for him as well as many others but it doesn't mean Marciano beats everybody or Ali.

Ali also said he would have beaten Marciano at each others best. He even through in that he could have beaten Marciano even when he was not at his best which was the version that fought Frazier for the second and third time. Something like that. Not sure if the videos are still up; it would help. He also gave credit to Marciano and then took it away at the same time by saying he fought an Old Joe Louis, an Old Archie Moore, an Old Walcott, an Old Charles. And continued by saying had they been younger/prime they would have beaten Rocky.

Muhammad Ali talks with Howard Cosell about the Heavyweights.
It was up on these boards already but it was taken down by Youtube. Not sure if someone else has it. Ask around; it's known.

Never heard that from Foreman but you can show me where he says it and I have no problem. But it still doesn't make it true. Foreman's a humble guy now who doesn't even rate himself on his own top 10.

Ali also said Tyson would beat him and told Lewis he was the best.

            Humble people after they leave.

Get them in their prime and with a signed contract, it's a different story.

Marciano would think the same probably as well.

I also think it is a touchy subject to speak about Marciano and what you really think. If you do, be prepared to get ripped.

You can start with this for now until the others are found but ask around. It's Ali and Howard talking about the Champs; that's what you should ask for. In that video he also goes over the styles that could trouble him...from pressure fighters, to guys that crouch, to others that lean back. His preferance would be to face "boxers." Traditional.

It was actually from this discussion but this is only a piece of it. If you can find it in entire form, he discusses it.

I posted the "Ali talks about former heavyweights" video here a while ago and I'm sure a plenty of people have seen it. The uploader of the video was suspended from youtube and all of his videos (hundreds of them) were removed which is a shame.

Ali did indeed praise Marciano at first but later went on a long rant saying Marciano fought old men and was a cheater. As always it was hard to determine which side of Ali should have been taken seriously if either.

He held quite a bit of respect for Marciano though, maybe because he had grown up watching Marciano fight. Even before their famous "computer fight" Ali could be seen praising Marciano for example during the Patterson-Chuvalo fight when he said that Rocky would have knocked out both of them in a couple of rounds.

Meanwhile the armchair quarterbacks on this site don't even have Marciano beating Hopkins!

Every fighter claims the fighters before him were greater than him, these threads mean nothing.
