Marciano was down only twice in his professional career - at the hands of two terrific punchers - and neither knockdown so much as phased him.

Evander was down a couple of times too, wasn't he? And didn't he lose a couple of fights by TKO?

yes evander has been TKO'd twice

once at age 33, after already taking tons of punishment and going through 2 wars with bowe and wars with qawi etc he was TKO'd by the 6''5 240 odd pound bowe in their third fight

then, when he was shot at like 41 or 42 he was TKO'd from an accumulation of blows by toney, james is my fave but evander was well and truly done by that fight and james exposed it- still a good performance though

toney is an underrated puncher also, and he landed a lot on evander whos chin was already damaged by countless other hard fights

so yes evander was stopped a couple of times, but i guarantee you that if rocky had fought the guys evander has fought and until the age evander has fought til he would have been stopped a couple of dozen times

Marciano's boxing brain is greatly underrated and something that should be discussed more. Strategically he was very accomplished and disciplined, obviously great at cutting off the ring, really great timing, and was a frustrating fighter to jab and counter. His power, durability, and workrate helped but I don't think Rocky would have made it as far as he did if those were his loan assets. When people talk about an under skilled white slugger walking through punches to land a sloppy knockout punch I think of Rex Layne.

Good point about the jab defense. I say it all the time, he had this evasive angular lean that just made it really hard for boxer punchers, boxer punchers with swifter jabs than Lewis.

Lewis would only win this one by clinching constantly and eventually timing and landing enough of those hard right crosses.

I think Rocky's best shot out of all of them would be Evander. His worse chance is Lennox, while Tyson is in the middle.

Evander tires late in fights and I think Rocky could take advantage of that. People who say Evander would be to big, I disagree with. Qawi was able to land and keep it close. Sure Evander wasn't in his prime all the way yet, but I think Rocky can still have sucess.

Lennox just jabs him to death and bloodies him up.

But Like i said lewis would hug him to death every time he got close and eventually land enough right hands when he was on the outside to end it.


But a larger version of Rocky (with modern nutrition) would kill Lewis.

Beyond the height and wingspan difference, Marciano and Foreman are actually built very similar in terms of skeletal frames and even muscular thickness. Not as big a difference as you would expect.

Marciano would be a LHW if he fought today. I have no idea why people try to discredit him in matching him with guys twice his size. The CW version of Holyfield would be an interesting matchup and despite what a lot of people on here claim, Rocky would definitely make it out of the first round with the other two.
