Kid Gavilan vs Roberto Duran @ 147

Who do you see winning this, the Duran vs SRL vs Gavilan

both were the toughest opponents SRR/SRL faced at welterweights

Duran I feel would've been too much for Gavilan. Gavilan was a slick beautiful boxer, but he preferred to slug it out at mid-range too much, and wouldn't have worked the ring like you would need to to beat duran. what do you think though?

I agree. Gavilan was great, but he lacked the punch to keep Duran at bay. It would be an interesting fight, but over 15 rounds I would favor Duran by decision. If Roberto could beat Leonard he would beat the "Kid". Gavilan had a great chin though so I don't see a ko.

I agree that Duran would win this fight.Even if Gavilan boxed him from away, I don't think he would beat Duran, cause Duran was still very good at welterweight and felt comfortable there. Fighting away Duran would win by decision...if Gavilan fought mid-range, the pressure and pounding to the body would wear him down and Duran would stop him I think.
And this is a very good thread, thanks. Interesting match up.

Now there's a legit matchup I would like to watch. I got Duran winning this by close UD. Gavilan was a tough SOB, I can see him making it to the last bell.
