    Mildenberger and Ali. Pics.

I found some nice pics of german Karl Mildenberger.

He challenged Muhammad Ali for the HW title in 1966. Ali had great difficulty with the southpaw especially in the first few rounds.

In the 12 round it was over.

Here he is with Ali (and Henry Maske) in 1998:

Mildenberger still weighs 88 kg. as he did when he fought Ali. Here he is with Axel Schulz.

Mildenbergers career ended in 1968 with a DQ loss to Henry Cooper in London.

Besides his hair being white, he really hasn't changed all that much.

First southpaw to challenge for a world heavyweight title, not a bad fight either.

Right. He looks in good shape. Both physically and mentally.

That was during Ali's tour of the world, he fought in Canada, the UK twice and then in Germany against Mildenberger all within a 6 month period.

I actually meant world heavyweight title, I for got to type heavyweight. I believe Al McCoy was the first southpaw to win a championship back in the 1910s.

According to some book on Ali I read, that came out not so long ago,Mildenberger hit Ali with a great bodyshot. After the fight Angelo Dundee came up to him and said if Mildenberger would've hit him again with the same punch,he'd be the new heavyweight champion.
                    Interesting....
