You know Tye Fields has a high knockout percentage too right? You know why he has a high ko percentage? Because he fights bums just like Jack Dempsey did. Fighters of that era also wore smaller gloves so that equals more knock downs and knock outs. I also heard Dempsey used to put plaster on his gloves and since none of us were born back then we don't know if he did or not.
Dempsey also never fought a black fighter in his life. Imagine how high alot of black or even other white fighters knock out percentage would of been if they would of avoided fighting black fighters. Do you see any white fighters who would of beat Foreman,Ali,Frazier or Holmes in the 70's? Do you think Tyson would of lost to any white fighter in the 80's? It is like now if black fighters at middleweight would of avoided fighting the best white fighters. Fighter like Pavlik and Abraham who are clearly superior to any black middleweight at the this time. To be great you have to fight all races not just one race like Dempsey did.Comment

eplosiveness is maybe one of the most important things in a punch.
dempsey, p4p, is way up there in boxing.
i have met guy who i would say are more explosive for sure - because it is a focus of ours.
foreman, he hit hard because, when younger, he was a bit quicker but really had weight behind it.
2 different kinds of punchers. both can **** u up. but only one can make anybody, even a smaller guy, a dangerous puncher. and that is the explosive way of punching.
championship fighting is a bible to punching.Comment

Dempsey had an aggresive style to his punches through courage and speed enabling him to power through his target almost at will. That being said, he did not have the strongest punches ever, but for his size the power was frightening.
Dempsey's promoter Tex Rickard who also promoted Jeffries and Johnson said Jeffries was the hardest hitter he had ever seen. He stated that if Dempsey and Jeffries had met, the 'Boilermaker' would have knocked Dempsey out. Rickard also said a prime Jeffries could have beat Jack Johnson although Jeffries has said himself ''i could never have whipped Johnson at my best. I couldn't have beaten him in a thousand years''.
Dempsey himself declared Sam Langford as the hardest puncher he had seen, partly the reason he avoided him. He said Langford was the best fighter he had ever seen, and he didn't have the experience to fight a man like him. If Dempsey himself admitted another man to have the hardest punches, i don't think it's rightful to declare him to the title.
Like i said, his power for his size was frightening, but keep in mind that Langford started as a Lightweight, yet carried brutal power to be a force at Heavyweight.Comment
