who is the greatest of all time in any division, based on resume and the quality of opponents they fought?

For me It's SRL, he handed Duran his first loss (well aside from when he was a young blood), then made him quit, he beat Marvin Hagler who dwarfed him and was possibly the best middleweight to date, he beat Thomas Hearns in a punching match and showed great heart and chin.

Those were his 3 biggest wins, all elite fighters..some are lucky to have even one win over an elite fighter. He has a slew of solid fighters to just to beef up his resume.

For me I have him over Ali because Ali's wins were from direct style match ups suited for him (deliberately running and fighting slower fighters) I feel if he fought another fighter with fast hands he'd be in trouble. Leonard on the other hand took on Hearns, who was just as fast as him and punched harder.

Just to correct a mistake, Leonard actually lost to Duran in their first fight.

Hagler did not really dwarf Leonard either, they were quite similar in size. Hagler was not a big middleweight, just a great one.

You forgot to mention Leonard's win over Wilfred Benitez, that was another great win for him as well.

I would not say he was the greatest of all time, Leonard lacked longevity and he could've given instant rematches to Hearns and Hagler.
I actually think he was somewhat missed potential because of his eye injury and the retirements after.

Leonard was certainly the smartest businessman/boxer though.

yea my mistake on the Duran mishap

I can't say I agree on Hagler and Leonard being the same size though, Hagler was built like a tank.

you should also keep in mind, Ali who is widely accepted on peoples list as the greatest to date..he had more "uneeded" losses than SRL.

Ali is not considerd widley as the greatest of all time. Sugar Ray Robinson is, and rightly so!

Robinson is considered the greatest p4p fighter based on quantity, his oposition wasn't as good as Leonards.

i disagree in an era where people had long careers Leonard fought 40 times. he ducked Hagler and only fought him when he was past his peak after watching his performance with Mugabi. Leonard wasnt a very active fighter at his peak i give him credit for his notable victories but he isnt the goat and doesnt make my p4p top 5 of all time
