No, they are not the same. No one is knocked out with a TKO. In a TKO situation, usually the opponent is beaten half to death before the referee stops the fight whereas a KO is less savage.

Actually, you can certainly be knocked out and still have a TKO recorded. If you get knocked down and the ref immediately waves it off because he knows you are not going to get up, it's recorded as a TKO win, not a KO.

Often half way through a count when the ref realises the fighter is not going to get up he simply waves it off and gets the doc in, therefore, what is genuinely a KO gets put down as a TKO.

If you get knocked down and stand up at eight but are half dead and couldn't even lift your arms, let alone defend yourself, and the ref the waves it off, it is a TKO, even though the guy got knocked out. Most fights, even if it's a KO, are recorded as TKO's. It is not that often that a ref will count the full ten without the guy moving.

As an example go watch Julian Jackson knock Terry Norris out. That's about as brutal a KO as you can get, but it's recorded as a TKO. Get it? You should learn about this stuff before spouting about it with people that do know.
