  • Couple Of questions

I dont know if this in the right place.

    1) Is a limit to many weight classes a fighter can move up into? As long as they can make the weight for example could welterweight become a heavyweight if he could put the weight on.

    2) Why are they some many boxing organisations instead having one champion there are four or five? I suspect money is involved when did this happen.

    Thank you

1)No, there is no limit. Roy Jones was middleweight champion and later became heavyweight champion. I cannot think of a welterweight who has done it(at least not with much success) but there's nothing to stop one from doing it.

    2) I think the first split was the 1960s/1970s, when it became WBA and WBC. After that the IBF was set up and since then other organisations have come into existence. If you fight for one of these belts then you have to pay a sanctioning fee to the organisation, so yes, it's done for money.

yeah, the thing is you can move up and down, but my understanding is that because a light welterweight like hatton is 5'8 he would never be tall enough to fight cruiser/heavyweight. also, it may defy most people's natural body composition, and putting too much weight slows you down.
