PS: I can find many articles that offer Johnson money to fight if that's what you need to see vs Langford, Jeannette and Langford. These fights never happened.

I can not name one lineal champion who avoided this much competition, and yes I can add Smith and possibly McCarty to the list.

Posters here call Jeannette, Langford and McVea liars when they collectively insisted Jack Johnson never gave them their title shots while he was HW champion. He had plenty of excuses to avoid them and ended up fighting a lesser fighter instead. Johnson was never serious about fighting any of them once they got some experience under their belt. Remember, he fought all three while they were green or just starting out. He also had a distinct size advantage. Once they improved and entered their prime he wanted nothing to do with them. His resume is a solid indication of the kind of fights he was looking for.

But still...I would LOVEEE for you to answer. If Jack Johnson ducked Sam Langford because he refused to honor a contract for Langford for a shared 3000 pounds (about $10,000--$20,000 short of his asking price for all challengers), what does that make Jack Dempsey for refusing to honor a contract to fight Wills for $800,000 (more money than he made vs. Tunney)?

Can't have it both ways, can you? Or are you just a tad bit biased here, hmmmm? I guess Dempsey is 80X more guilty than Jack Johnson
