in "real" HW championshio fights Holyfield is 5-3-1 the rest is alphabet bull****, he was shot by the time he fought lewis, so closer to his prime he would be 5-2-0

If holy wasnt the real champ from 96-99, then who was? The old ass george foreman? lennox lewis?

according to linear rules, Foreman was champ from 94 - 97 and then it was Briggs until Lennox beat him.

Yeah but according to ring, it was holyfield. Either way, i value who u beat over linear fights. Dempsey was a big fish in a small pond. Well, that pond would have been bigger if we saw harry wills, langford, godfrey and others get title shots.

No, after Vitali retired, they had an article talking about "linear champs", and they listed Shannon Briggs as one of them.

They may have not recognized Briggs back then, but they now say he was a HW champ.

Willard was 6ft 6" and 240lbs but the way Dempsey laid into him is ****ing awesome - knocked him down 7 times in the first round (no standing eight count and no neutral corner at that time) and battered him in the next two, despite getting knocked outta the ring himself. You only have to see his face and you know you don't wanna mess with Dempsey - he looks like a serial killer!

Willard had unbelievable guts though - he got murdered with vicious punches, ended up with broken ribs, fractured jaw and cheekbone and blood everywhere but still didn't give in.

I think these old time boxers had far more courage than most guys nowdays.

Thanks for that Dempsey book post - I never knew anything about the guy until I looked him up and now he's one of my favs.
                      - -Nelsons precursor, a lost 3rd cousin?

Indeed, Mankiller Jess would hold a belt today, but in 6 oz gloves in his day he was a killer of men.

Jack had to sign a waiver so his estate couldnt sue Jess if Jack died.

Only fight I know of with those circumstances.
