The team behind Chris Eubank Jr. will quickly explore if a fight is possible with IBF, IBO, WBA middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin.

Both Eubank and Golovkin saw potential opponents fall out in the last few days.

Golovkin was scheduled to face Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in a trilogy fight in September. That fight appears to have been derailed last Saturday, when Canelo was soundly outboxed over twelve rounds by WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. After the loss, Canelo expressed his desire to exercise a rematch clause to fight Bivol in the fall.

Golovkin would have moved up from 160-pounds to challenge Canelo for his undisputed super middleweight crown.

Eubank's promoter, Kalle Sauerland of Wasserman Boxing, will reach out to Golovkin's handlers this week.

"Absolutely," Sauerland told The Daily Mail. "We will be in talks with them this week to see if it's going to be an option."

Sauerland is still not convinced Canelo will exercise the rematch clause with Bivol. There are some observers who believe Canelo will still face Golovkin in the fall and then pursue a rematch with Bivol in 2023.

"There's one thing that Canelo says in the ring that he's going to have the rematch with Bivol, but it's another thing exercising it in writing," Sauerland added. "We're just going to have to wait and see what happens there.

"We know the Golovkin people well. We've always said he's the No 1 on the list of course. He's the standing champion at middleweight and that's the one that Eubank wants. We'll have to just wait and see about the situation between Canelo and Bivol."
