Errol Spence Jr. is still holding firm to his IBF, WBC, and WBA welterweight titles. But while he continues in his attempts to hammer out a deal that would see him take on WBO champion, Terence Crawford, the pound-for-pound star is enjoying his time as a promoter.

Just a few short years ago, Frank Martin caught the attention of the 33-year-old titlist. And, in short order, Spence signed the Detroit native to his promotional banner, Man Down Promotions. Since doing so, Martin (17-0, 12 KOs) has experienced loads of success, including a 2022 campaign that saw him emerge on just about everyone’s radar.

Amongst a long list of fights Spence is hoping to line his man up with, is a tantalizing one with Shakur Stevenson. This past weekend, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, Stevenson officially made his lightweight debut against Shuichiro Yoshino.

It may have been because he had little to do on the night, or quite possibly a scouting mission, but Spence made sure he grabbed a seat near his television set to watch Stevenson up close and personal.

From the moment the opening bell rang, Stevenson (20-0, 10 KOs) pummeled his Japanese foe. After making him miss and making pay on countless occasions, Stevenson showed off his newfound strength by dropping his man several times before eventually stopping him in the sixth.

Unequivocally, Spence shook his head in approval as Stevenson banked round after round. With Stevenson putting all of his skills on display, Spence tipped his cap in the direction of the former Olympic silver medalist.

“He nice as f---,” said Spence on his social media account.

While a showdown between Stevenson and Frank could be brewing, Stevenson seemingly has bigger fish to fry. Following his lopsided victory over Yoshino, the highly ranked contender became the WBC number one mandatory contender to Devin Haney’s undisputed throne. First things first, however, Haney is set to take on Vasiliy Lomachenko on May 20th. Regardless of who snags the victory, Stevenson has made his feelings known that he fully intends to pursue his mandated right immediately after.
