Former four division world champion Erik "Terrible" Morales (52-9, 36KOs), 37-years-old, wants to fight two last bouts and then retire from boxing and to do it “happy.” Following a tremendous and thrilling career, Erik plans to branch out as a promoter. He explained that his retirement has been delayed, because he has had several problems with promoters to reach agreements.
After Jorge Paez Jr. stopped Ivan Hernandez in Mexicali, former four division world champion Erik Morales entered the ring and called for a fight with the winner. Morales had been trying to set a fight for 2013, but instead he will fight either once or twice next year and then retire from the sport. According to Soto's manager Antonio Lozada, the two sides were simply unable to reach an agreement. TV Azteca, who will televise, have stated the fight is "very possible." Morales has not fought since last October KO loss to Danny Garcia. Paez has already fought three times in 2013. The weight has to be negotiated with Morales and it is speculated that 145 or 147-pounds will be selected.

The sanctioning body wants to hold a ceremony in Morales' hometown of Tijuana and present him with a specially made WBO belt. Morales captured the WBO super bantamweight title in his first violent war with Marco Antonio Barrera on February 19, 2000. Morales never defended the title and moved up to featherweight two fights later. The first fight with Barrera was the first and only time that Morales had fought with a WBO championship at stake.

For years, since their time in Top Rank a decade ago, the two fighters had heat with each other and the two of them have attacked each other in the press numerous times when discussions to stage a fight between the two of them have fallen apart. Marquez, nearly 40-years-old, will face WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley on October 12th at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
