Edwin De Los Santos: record, next fight and profile →
As much as Shakur Stevenson wanted to display his superiority over Frank Martin, the unbeaten Stevenson believes he’ll face a better, more dangerous southpaw November 16.
Shakur Stevenson still isn’t sure why he isn’t preparing to fight Vasiliy Lomachenko next month. According to Stevenson, the three-division champion from Ukraine was offered a career-high purse to box him. They’re both promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc. as well, which should make it easier to complete a deal for Stevenson-Lomachenko.
William Foster hasn’t fought a murderous row of opponents just yet. Actually, if you sift through his resume, you’ll run across names that you simply never heard of. One fighter, however, that sticks out, is Edwin De Los Santos.
It seemed incredibly unlikely. Not because Edwin De Los Santos wasn’t good enough, but more so because Shakur Stevenson wasn’t exactly interested.
Shakur Stevenson will attempt to become a three-weight world champion when he takes on Dominican puncher Edwin De Los Santos for the vacant WBC lightweight world title Thursday, Nov. 16 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It wasn’t the opponent he wanted but that doesn’t Shakur Stevenson is listlessly going through training camp. On November 16th, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, the 26-year-old will officially take on Edwin De Los Santos. To sweeten the pot, the WBC has placed their freshly vacated title on the line.
Shakur Stevenson has gone through all of the emotions. From disheartened to frustrated, Stevenson has experienced it all. But after watching elite fighter after elite fighter turn him down, the former Olympic silver medalist was a happy man once Frank Martin ostensibly stepped up to the plate.
A southpaw affiliated with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions has agreed to fight Shakur Stevenson for the second time in barely a week. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that representatives for Edwin De Los Santos and Stevenson have reached a financial agreement for them to fight for the WBC lightweight title November 16 in Las Vegas. ESPN will televise Stevenson-De Los Santos as a main event on a Thursday night, probably from T-Mobile Arena.
Shakur Stevenson has always shown patience in the ring. His ability to stand directly in front of his opponents while a million hard shots are whizzing by his unprotected chin is a gift. During those heated moments, Stevenson doesn't throw much in return, instead, that patience we discussed earlier is used again, waiting for the perfect time to catch his man in between shots.
Fantasy and reality are often two completely different worlds. So far, Shakur Stevenson is realizing that. The newly turned 26-year-old dreamed of aggregating every world title at 130 pounds and becoming the division’s undisputed champion. No one in the ring appeared capable of stopping his desires, but that infamous weight scale had other ideas.
