Dmitriy Salita: record, next fight and profile →
Dmitriy Salita, promoter for undisputed middleweight champion Claressa Shields, is very interested in the possibility of a rematch with Savannah Marshall. Last year, Shields outboxed Marshall over ten rounds to become the undisputed middleweight champion in their long-awaited grudge match.
Eddie Hearn wants Anthony Joshua to fight later this summer, but it won’t be against Jarrell Miller. If nothing else, Hearn says, Joshua may not fight at all this season. Joshua, the former heavyweight titlist from London, was recently in talks to fight countryman Dillian Whyte on Aug. 12 but negotiations foundered as the sides were unable to come to terms.
Dmitriy Salita realizes some fans and maybe even Eddie Hearn himself don’t want Jarrell Miller to get another opportunity to fight Anthony Joshua.
Dmitriy Salita is eager for boxing fans to witness what he has long seen in Ali Izmailov. The undefeated Russian light heavyweight contender has just 10 fights on his professional record, but he is already ranked fifth by the IBF and 11th by the WBO. Izmailov (10-0, 7 KOs) will fight for the first time on American television Friday night, though, when he’ll encounter Charles Foster (22-0, 12 KOs) in a 10-round fight for Izmailov’s USBA 175-pound championship.
Claressa Shields’ return to her home state of Michigan was in jeopardy last week and Dmitriy Salita had little time to find a replacement for Hanna Gabriels. Luckily for Shields and her team, Maricela Cornejo was already training for another bout and willing to take the most
Maricela Cornejo will enter the ring at the lightest official weight of her career for a short-notice assignment against one of the best women’s boxers in history. The 36-year-old middleweight was 155 pounds during Friday’s weigh-in, exactly five pounds lighter than her weight for each of her past three starts. Her latest trip to the scales comes ahead of her challenge of three-division and reigning undisputed middleweight champion and pound-for-pound queen Claressa Shields, who was 159.6 pounds for their DAZN main event Saturday from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
New York-based Swedish heavyweight Otto Wallin (25-1, 14 KOs) will be a free agent as of June 6 when the contract with Salita Promotions expires. He is already free to negotiate with others.
Promoter Dmitriy Salita believes heavyweight contender Jermaine Franklin is still very much in the frame to become an elite fighter in his weight class.
Jermaine Franklin’s lifestyle changes since his last fight resulted in a steep drop in weight when the heavyweight contender stepped on the British Boxing Board of Control’s scale Friday afternoon in London. Franklin came in at 234¾ pounds for his 12-round, non-title fight against Anthony Joshua on Saturday night at O2 Arena in London.
If Jarrell Miller can beat Lucas Browne on Saturday, Miller’s co-promoter is confident that type of victory would show Miller is ready to fight heavyweights toward the top of their division.
