Lou DiBella couldn’t believe what he was reading Friday.

George Kambosos Jr.’s promoter took exception to Eddie Hearn’s contention in an article aggregated by BoxingScene.com from Hearn’s recent interview on “The DAZN Boxing Show” that DiBella never made him an offer for a Kambosos-Devin Haney fight in Australia. DiBella told BoxingScene.com in a subsequent interview that he made DAZN, Hearn and, in effect, Haney an offer over a month ago for Haney to travel to Kambosos’ home country of Australia for a lucrative title unification fight with the undefeated, unified lightweight champion.

DiBella wouldn’t divulge details of his offer or Hearn’s counteroffer, but he deemed Hearn’s offer “insulting,” “preposterous” and “ridiculous.” Kambosos is not under contract with DAZN, but the streaming service and Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing secured rights to his career-changing upset of previously unbeaten Teofimo Lopez on November 27 because Triller Fight Club defaulted on the stunning winning offer it submitted last February 25 at an IBF purse bid.

Las Vegas’ Haney (26-0, 15 KOs), the WBC world 135-pound champion, is under contract with DAZN and Matchroom. Sydney’s Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) – who owns the WBC franchise championship as well as the IBF, WBA “super” and WBO belts – has multiple years left on his contract with DiBella Entertainment, but he is not contractually tied to a television network or streaming service.

“I made the offer first to DAZN because Eddie Hearn has nothing to do with my fighter, despite the fact that since before the fight with Teofimo, he was trying to confuse people and act like he did,” DiBella told BoxingScene.com. “But I made an offer to him over a month ago. Within an hour of one another, I made the offer to both DAZN and Eddie. DAZN told me Eddie would counter the offer. Eddie countered the offer [on January 28] with something that was beyond insulting. But I’m not gonna talk about the details of our discussions because I don’t believe in negotiating in the press. And I’m not going to engage in a back-and-forth with someone who is just bold-faced lying.”

With the division’s hottest commodity, at least in the short term, perfectly positioned to do business with the best bidder, DiBella also has had discussions with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc. about Kambosos boxing three-division champion Vasiliy Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) in his next fight. He has talked as well with decision-makers at Golden Boy Promotions regarding a potential Kambosos-Ryan Garcia fight later this year, which hinge squarely on how the long-inactive Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) fares in his fight against Ghana’s Emmanuel Tagoe (32-1, 15 KOs) on April 9 at Alamodome in San Antonio (DAZN).

As far as DiBella is concerned, Haney is no longer in the running to battle Kambosos next. Regardless, the 28-year-old Kambosos is expected to return to the ring at some point in June at an undetermined outdoor venue in Australia.

Funding for Kambosos’ first defenses of the aforementioned titles will be provided in part by the Australian government, which views the event as a means to boost tourism.

“I made a very fair offer to Eddie and it was countered with something ridiculous,” DiBella said. “We’ve moved on. OK? And, by the way, there’s a lot of concern in Australia, even though Bill and Devin keep saying they’ll do whatever it takes, they’ve made it very clear they’re not yet vaccinated. There’s about to be a law put into effect, potentially, in Australia, where you must be boostered – not only fully vaccinated, but boostered, to go to an event. So, I mean, the reality is I made an offer weeks and weeks ago. It was countered with something that was not only an unfair response, it was preposterous.

“Eddie going around saying he never received an offer from us, when the people who he does business with at DAZN, who are his benefactors, 100-percent know that he’s not telling the truth. If I didn’t see this article in writing, I would’ve kept my mouth shut. But he’s lying all over the place and I’ve had enough of it. I’m tired of all the happy bullsh!t. And you can quote that. I’m tired of all the happy bullsh!t.”
