Two-weight world champion Anthony Mundine is looking to sweep aside veteran Bronco McKart on his American debut next month, before launching an audacious two-year bid to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The 37 year-old, who has four defeats in 47 contests, is ready to work his way up to the task of ending Mayweather’s perfect 43-0 record and says there is no-one out there with his capabilities to defeat the pound for pound king.
"I’m the only one that can beat Floyd," Mundine told foxsports.com.au.
"You need speed. He’s never fought someone as fast as me or someone with as good skill as me."
Eyebrows were raised when Mundine announced McKart as his opponent for the summer after turning down a shot at WBA light-middleweight champion Austin Trout, although ‘The Man’ is confident that he picked the right starting point for his US fight career.
"It’s the foot in the door, the chance for the American public to know Anthony Mundine," he said. “I’m going to let my talents to the work in the ring.
"I’ve got a five-fight plan (to face Mayweather), whether it takes two years or two-and-a-half or three years. But it could happen earlier, I’m bringing something different.
“I want to let them know who I am. I’m the wonder from down under, I truly believe it.
"I’ve got the whole package. And I’m controversial, they like that."
Opponent McKart, 41, has fought 64 times in a vast career, in which the Michigan fighter lost a trilogy of fights to the recently-retired Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright, along with a further defeat to former undisputed champion Kelly Pavlik.
The southpaw has racked up three wins on the spin though and will need another to keep himself in with a slim chance of fighting for a world title for a fifth time after previously winning one of his four attempts.
