Devin Haney's victory on Saturday night over Antonio Moran is an early candidate for Knockout of the Year.  The one punch knockout in the 7th round is one of the most brutal knocks so far in 2019.

After the fight Haney said that part of the reason he was so sharp was because of how long he was in camp waiting for a fight to be finalized as his team finished up negotiating a promotional contract with Matchroom Boxing USA.

"I had a long training camp. A few fight dates fell out. We were negotiating with Eddie and Matchroom and DAZN to see where my new home was going to be so a few fight dates fell out and I was in training camp. So I had the chance to prepare for anything Moran or anybody brought because we really didn't know who we were going to be fighting," Haney stated after the fight.

The Las Vegas resident got off to a quick start and from the beginning knew that it was going to be an early night.

"(I knew in the) first round. From the first jab I threw I felt like it was easy for me to hit him. I started touching him up. My timing was on point so I knew instantly," Haney explained.

Prior to the fight Haney hoped that he would be fighting Luke Campbell for the vacant WBC lightweight title that Mikey Garcia recently relinquished. Those plans went up in flames when in an unusual move, the WBC decided to order Campbell to face WBA/WBO lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko in a unification bout for all three belts.

It is going to take Haney a little while longer to get his long awaited title shot but for now he is going to savor his victory over Moran.

"Everything went great. Everything went smooth. The experience was great. I am very happy with it," Haney told a group of reporters after the fight.
