New York trainer Andre Rozier has given his take on the much talked about clash between Derevyanchenko and pound for pound superstar 'Canelo' Alvarez.
Derevyanchenko was inserted as mandatory challenger to Alvarez' IBF world middleweight title, and both camps are in the process of negotiating a clash between the former Ukrainian amateur standout and the Mexican superstar. Rozier, who is no stranger to the threat of Alvarez weighed in on a potential clash between the pair.
The Brooklyn native said, "This is a fight that really excites me. Sergiy is a fantastic fighter he really is. We call him 'The Technician' for a reason. He's a fighter that has very few flaws and is fundamentally excellent and is still improving.
"Sergiy's skill set will cause any fighter in the middleweight or super middleweight division problems that is a fact. He hasn't had any easy fights as a professional and that can be seen with his victories over top talents such as Kemahl Russell and Tureano Johnson. He really is an elite fighter and this fight is an elite fight.
"Sergiy is also a great human being who is really easy to work with, he follows instruction without any complaints and he has absolutely no prima donna tendencies which is a massive help for any training team when it comes to formulating a coaching plan to get the maximum results out of an athlete. His attitude is why he will continue to be a success and a great role model."
Rozier continued, assessing the stylistic layout of the potential clash with unified champion Alvarez, "Canelo is a fantastic talent, I have nothing but admiration for his skillset, but the Sergiy that he is going to face will give him the hardest test of his career since Floyd Mayweather, you can log that!"
Rozier, who recently launched Havoc Management and Advisory inc alongside Havoc Media & PR inc, has also revealed that Derevyanchenko will be conducting his training camps under the guidance of Rozier, Gary Stark Sr and the Havoc Boxing Team. The standout trainer discussed the prospects of Derevyanchenko training with both himself and Stark Sr.
He said, "Sergiy is a top talent and we feel that with myself and Gary working together in a way we have done over the years will be the key to bringing out the best in Sergiy whether we train in Brooklyn, Staten Island or California. The team focus on Sergiy is what will be the key to winning this fight.
"On my behalf, there were two fights where I wasn't in Sergiy's camp and that was a mistake on my part and I promise that will never happen again. I believe that team Derevyanchenko has all the components to take the fight to any middleweight in the world and that will show on fight night whether it be Alvarez or someone else. The fact is Sergiy will be a world champion this year in my opinion."
