Denis Shafikov: record, next fight and profile →
Three weeks ago, Russian light welterweight Denis “Ghengis Khan” Shafikov, a sound technician and a sharpshooter, defended his European title for the second time. He did this in a convincing manner by erasing the sole blemish of his almost perfect professional record (now 29-0-1, 17 KOs).
A year and a half since his first meeting with Brunet Zamora, Denis Shafikov finally proved his superiority over a very good albeit aging fighter. In a tactical and somewhat vicious collision between two boxers, not brawlers, Shafikov landed the harder punches, initiated less clinches and was faster than his 37-year old opponent - and it earned him a hard-fought but well-deserved unanimous decision over twelve rounds at Dynamo Arena in Ufa, Russia.
Weights are in for a tiny but fairly exciting night of boxing at Ufa Arena in Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia. In the main event, two unbeaten fighters collide in a very meaningful junior welterweight match-up as WBC #8 ranked Russian Denis "Genghis Khan" Shafikov (28-0-1, 17 KOs) takes on Cuban veteran Brunet Zamora (22-0-2, 14 KOs) over twelve rounds.
Italian jr. welterweight Brunet Zamora (21-0-2, 10KOs), who fights EBU champ Denis Shafikov (28-0-1, 17KOs) later this spring, fought a tune-up last night in Fogliano Redipuglia - against unheralded Nicaraguan Santos Medrano (8-8) - and it almost backfired. Shafikov was floored in the first but got up to win a close, 77-76, decision after eight rounds. Shafikov vs. Zamora will reportedly go ahead May 31 in Ufa, Russia.
It´s rumored, but not confirmed, that EBU jr. welterweight champion Denis Shafikov´s defense against mandatory challenger Brunet Zamora will go ahead on May 31st in Ufa, Bashkiria in southeastern Russia.
Finnish promotional outfit P 3 Boxing, headed by Pekka Maeki, won the purse bids earlier today in Rome for EBU jr. welterweight champ Denis Shafikov´s mandatory defense against Italian challenger Brunet Zamora.
Outclassed Scotsman Lee McAllister suffered an anti-climactic defeat in his European light-welterweight challenge against unbeaten Russian Denis Shafikov.
Russian light welterweight Denis Shafikov (28-0-1, 17 KOs) produced probably the best fight of his career, and he generated this performance in his opponent's backyard, Aberdeen, stopping Scottish Lee McAllister (34-3, 9 KOs) in seven one-sided rounds to retain his EBU 140lb title. He also presented an answer to a popular question, why many of his fans and numerous boxing experts call him "Genghis Khan" in Europe.
European light welterweight champion Denis Shafikov (27-0-1, 16 KOs) is ready to defend his title later tonight at the backyard of Scottish challenger Lee McAllister (34-2, 9 KOs) in Aberdeen.
Lee McAllister believes his EBU light-welterweight clash with champion Denis Shafikov early next year could be the gateway to a dream fight against Amir Khan.
