Weights are in for a tiny but fairly exciting night of boxing at Ufa Arena in Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia. In the main event, two unbeaten fighters collide in a very meaningful junior welterweight match-up as WBC #8 ranked Russian Denis "Genghis Khan" Shafikov (28-0-1, 17 KOs) takes on Cuban veteran Brunet Zamora (22-0-2, 14 KOs) over twelve rounds.
Shafikov, a 26-year old boxer-puncher out of local city of Miass, is the European 140lb champion and he will put his title at risk against the Italy-licensed Zamora, 37. The Cuban is just one fight removed from his spirited draw against Panamanian talent Alberto Mosquera for the WBA Interim title. That is Zamora's second career D. The first one occured a year before that when Zamora found an unexpected luck by getting a controversial draw against... Shafikov, which means it will be a rematch.
Shafikov weight in almost at the weight limit - 139.75, while Zamora tipped the scales at a pound less value: 139.
In a heated clash, which will serve as the event's main support bout, young welterweight talent Konstantin Ponomarev (14-0, 7 KOs) will look to extend his winning series against game and experienced Marat Khuzeev (19-5-1, 7 KOs) over eight. Ponomarev is 150.5, while Khuzeev weighed in at 151.5.
Also, Finnish Albanian Edis Tatli (17-0, 4 KOs) will tune-up against Uzbek trialhorse Sherzodbek Mamajanov (9-8-4, 6 KOs), also over eight, and Russian prospects Georgy Maltabar (7-1, 3 KOs) and Murat Gassiev (4-0, 1 KO) will also see action tomorrow.
Russia 2 will televise live at 7 PM LT (9 PM Moscow).
