DeGale: Benavidez is Possible, Eubank Jr. May Get His Wish!

Former two-time IBF super middleweight world champion James DeGale (24-2-1, 14 KOs) is looking for some big money options in the coming months.

DeGale made a lot of headlines recently, when he vacated his IBF world title purse other options.

The sanctioning body had ordered him to face mandatory challenger Jose Uzcategui, who held the interim-belt. After DeGale vacated, the sanctioning body made Uzcategui the full champion in the division.

One fighter that DeGale would like to get his hands on, is former IBO champion Chris Eubank Jr.

There has been a lot of bad blood between the two of them - with Eubank taking shots at DeGale for several years.

“Eubank, he’s run his mouth, his dad’s got a massive issue with me, so I think hopefully his wish is going to come true,” DeGale said to Boxing News. “His wish could be coming true, so we’ll see. There’s a lot of options out there. People think because I gave up my belt I don’t bring a lot to the table [but] who wouldn’t want me on their record?

“Sometimes it doesn’t have to be a world championship. It’s just about the grudge and two quality fighters fighting and making it an event which people want to see.”

Another fighter on DeGale's radar is WBC super middleweight world champion David Benavidez. Both DeGale and Benavidez are advised by boxing power broker Al Haymon, and they both compete under the Premier Boxing Champions Banner.

“I think that’s another possible fight, Benavidez. He’s a hungry young Mexican, he’s game, throws a lot of punches. He’s very ambitious. He think he’s the best, he’s confident and he’s a good fighter. Ramirez I don’t think is looked at as good but he’s still a quality fighter,” DeGale said.

“Worldwide there’s good fights all over the place. I’ve got a lot of options. We’ll see.”
