Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes unbeaten lightweight contender Ryan Garcia, is hoping to finalize a world title eliminator with Olympic gold medal winner Luke Campbell.

The World Boxing Council recently ordered Garcia and Campbell to fight each other, with the winner getting a crack at full champion Devin Haney.

Campbell was initially tipped to face Javier Fortuna for the WBC interim-lightweight title. When Fortuna went in another direction, the sanctioning body subbed in Garcia for the interim-title clash.

De La Hoya views the contest as a very dangerous proposition for his boxer.

Campbell has a lot more experience, with past fights against boxers like Vasiliy Lomachenko and Jorge Linares.

“I’m waiting for Eddie Hearn to call me and make me an offer and then we’ll take it from there,” De La Hoya said to Daily Breeze. “But the WBC has ordered it and if we can’t come to terms it goes straight to purse bids.

“This is a 50-50 fight. It’s a dangerous fight, but hey, this is what the WBC ordered, and I think both guys are up for it, and hopefully we can strike a deal and make this happen.”

In 2020, there has been a lot of drama between Garcia and De La Hoya.

The young Garcia has complained about his pay and his in-ring opportunities.

De La Hoya is not worried about their relationship and believes everything is fine.

“We are on the same page,” De La Hoya said. “Fighters and promoters are always going to have their disagreements. It’s like a family. Family is always family. You have your disagreements, but you’re always family, and unfortunately, you have all this social media and word gets out really fast, but family is always family, and we’ll come to an agreement and hopefully we’ll be crowning Ryan Garcia the world champion very soon.”
