In the wake of Manny Pacquiao’s dominating victory over Adrien Broner on Showtime PPV, Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya declared the days of pay-per-view were over.

De La Hoya made that announcement at the final press conference of the world title double-header featuring Jaime Munguia vs. Takeshi Inoue and Jesus Rojas vs. Xu Can at the Toyota Center in Houston on Saturday. The card will be streamed live on DAZN.

“DAZN has really changed the game in many ways,” De La Hoya said. “There are many people who love watching boxing throughout the United States and sometimes it’s too expensive watching a pay-per-view fight so we’re extremely fortunate to have a partner like DAZN come in and stream the fights for a relatively inexpensive price for $9.99 per month. For $9.99 a month, you can watch this amazing card on Saturday night on DAZN with the first month for free.”

De La Hoya also announced that the May 4 middleweight super showdown between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs will be available on DAZN for the above-mentioned monthly fee. Had a fight of this magnitude been made a year ago, it would likely have ended up on pay-per-view.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank DAZN for really coming to the rescue and giving the fans their money’s worth and giving the fans the best fights that they can possibly deliver with Golden Boy Promotions. Our partnership is a long-term, multi-year deal that is going to continually bring you the best fights possible. Our motive for the year and the years to come is to bring boxing back to the masses and to the fans.”

DAZN made its debut in the United States in October, streaming the WBSS 140-pound quarterfinal matchups of Prograis W12 Flannagan and Baranchyk TKO7 Yigit, shortly after HBO announced its departure from boxing after 45 years. Heavy on combat sports programing, DAZN is also available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Japan, Canada and Italy.
