For all the stuff people spout about watching for skill, all the admiration of master boxers, there is still a single thing guaranteed to bring any fan, anywhere, out of their seats quicker than anything. When a big shot lands, and a body touches the canvas, the viewing experience of boxing is fully realized. Before every fight, announcers let the fans no how many wins, losses, and draws a fighter has. Then they let them know how many times they’ve knocked another man out. No one ever announces how many unanimous decisions a fighter has earned

Dawson's Trainer Disagrees With Stevenson Stoppage

Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, the trainer of former champion Chad Dawson (31-3, 17KOs), was irate after referee Michael Griffin stopped Dawson's fight with Adonis Stevenson (21-1, 18KOs) in the first round. During the June match, which took place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Dawson was clipped early in the first round. He went down hard, made it up on wobbly legs, and the referee felt Dawson was too damaged to be allowed to continue.

Newly crowned WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis "Superman" Stevenson appeared on a recent edition of BoxingScene Radio. Stevenson spoke to us about his big June 8th upset knockout victory over Chad Dawson. "With Chad Dawson I told everybody I was going to knock him out. I was prepared very well for the fight. I did my job. I went in there and boxed him and knocked him out. I did my job," Stevenson stated. The 35-year-old said that he put on the weight right way and that he can still make the 168 pound limit which will provide him with even more options.

This Thursday (Friday to be exact) at midnight, a reimagining of Superman opens in theatres nationwide titled the “Man of Steel.” It looks fantastic, a new Superman for a new time. Of course, boxing fans know something the rest of the world may not. They already have a new Superman. He landed last Saturday night and became the Light Heavyweight Champion of the World. Let’s go to the report card.

There was a mixed reaction to Chad Dawson's first round TKO loss to Adonis Stevenson (21-1, 18KOs). Last September, Dawson (31-3, 17KOs) took a very big risky by draining himself to move down in weight for a high stakes fight with super middleweight king Andre Ward. Dawson's decision proved to be a disaster, as Ward dropped him three times and finished him off in the tenth of a one-sided fight. After the loss, Dawson was the first to admit that he shouldn't have dropped down to 168. Most insiders expected a different kind of Dawson on Saturday, when he traveled to Montreal to defend his WBC light heavyweight championship against Stevenson, who was moving up in weight to take the opportunity.

Adonis Stevenson produced a chilling first-round knockout to take Chad Dawson's WBC light-heavyweight title in Montreal. The hard-hitting southpaw caught the champion with a swinging left hook with less than 90 seconds of the contest gone and, although Dawson tottered to his feet, referee Michael Griffin spared him further punishment. It was Dawson' second successive defeat - and a third career loss - after he had dropped down to super-middleweight for an unsuccessful shot at Andre Ward's title.

Adonis Stevenson stopped Chad Dawson in the first round to claim the WBC light-heavyweight title in Montreal on Saturday night. The fight was over after 76 seconds; the result of a swinging left-handed punch that made an end to Dawson’s reign. Stevenson, a Haiti-born Canadian who, at 35, has fought in only 22 professional fights, improved to his record to 21-1, with 19 wins inside the distance. Dawson, who was trying to bounce back from a tenth-round loss to Andre Ward in a super middleweight fight, suffered an even more embarrassing defeat, his record falling to 31-3.

By Jake Donovan - Adonis Stevenson scored a monster 1st round knockout to emphatically dethrone Chad Dawson in their light heavyweight championship contest Saturday evening in Montreal, Canada. A left hook put Dawson down roughly a minute into the fight. The reigning light heavyweight king managed to beat the count, but was on unsteady legs the entire team, prompting referee Michael Griffin to stop the contest without another punch being thrown. The official time was 1:16 of round one.

Chad Dawson still rules the roost at light heavyweight, but is left to prove his worth to the boxing world after last year’s humbling knockout loss at the hands of Andre Ward. The bout took place at the super middleweight limit, which in hindsight was a foolish decision made by Dawson. While the southpaw had spent the first several years of his career at 160 and 168, his status as a leading light heavyweight since 2006 proved to take a toll on his wiry frame – that and the fact that Ward is simply among the best two fighters in the world today. Dawson returns home, so to speak, even if traveling to the backyard of opponent Adonis Stevenson. Saturday’s show, which airs live on HBO, takes place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada, but more importantly at the light heavyweight limit of 175 lb.
