Ricky Hatton is confident David Haye still has the mental and physical capacity to make another run in the heavyweight division. The retired Hatton visited Haye, a longtime friend, this week at Haye’s boxing in gym in London, where Haye has been working out in an attempt to overcome surgery to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon. Haye (28-3, 26 KOs) suffered the devastating injury during the sixth round of an 11th-round technical knockout loss to huge underdog Tony Bellew (29-2-1, 19 KOs) on March 4 at O2 Arena in London.
BoxingScene.com had reported the likelihood of the move a few days ago, but former two division world champion David Haye has now made it official - as he named Ismael Salas as his new trainer. A few weeks ago, the former WBA heavyweight champion parted ways with Shane McGuigan after only three fights.
WBA lightweight champion Jorge Linares (42-3, 27 KOs) recently arrived in London where he will base himself for his next training camp with a view to fighting in September or October.
David Haye has been fined £25,000 by the British Boxing Board of Control for his conduct in the build-up to his defeat by Tony Bellew. The heavyweight repeatedly made severe threats against Bellew's life prior to their 4 March fight at London's O2 Arena. At a fight-week press conference he also called sections of his rival's supporters "f****** retards" in response to their taunts, some of which he claimed were racist.
The rematch between British heavyweight rivals Tony Bellew and David Haye is being targeted for a date in December, says promoter Eddie Hearn. Bellew, who at the time was the WBC cruiserweight champion, moved up to heavyweight in March and pulled off a major upset with an eleven round stoppage of Haye, a former two division world champion.
According to a report in The Mirror, former two division champion David Haye (28-3, 26 KOs) is set to team up with Cuban trainer Ismael Salas, who trained countless fighters but at the moment is best known for his work with WBA lightweight champion Jorge Linares.
According to Eddie Hearn, promoter for Tony Bellew (29-2-1, 19 KOs), a rematch with David Haye is the biggest fight possible for the Liverpool star. Back in March, Bellew - who was the WBC cruiserweight champion - moved up to heavyweight to pulled of a big upset with a stoppage victory over two-division champion David Haye (28-3, 26 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London.
David Haye has split from his trainer Shane McGuigan. The 36-year-old fighter, currently recovering from an Achilles tendon injury suffered in his bout against Tony Bellew in March, announced the separation on his official Facebook page.
Former two division champion David Haye is very familiar with the combatants for this Saturday highly anticipated heavyweight clash. Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko will meet in the ring before a record crowd of 90,000 at Wembley to battle for the IBF, IBO, WBA world titles.
