Former two division world champion David Haye is being urged by one of his own fighters, Michael ‘Venom’ Page, to finally retire from the sport.

Page found it very tough to watch Haye's last in-ring appearance, which took place on May 5, and saw the veteran get demolished by Tony Bellew over five rounds at the O2 Arena in London.

Haye, 37-years-old, went down twice in the third round and once more in the fifth.

The contest was a rematch of their bout from March 2017, which saw Bellew - who was moving up from cruiserweight - pull off a huge upset by stopped an injured Haye in the eleventh round.

Many felt that a healthy Haye would set the record straight in the rematch - but that didn't happen - and Bellew won for a second time in far more convincing fashion.

After the loss, Haye discussed the possibility of fighting again.

And while he's also dropping hints about retirement - there has been no official decision made.

Page, who is promoted by Haye’s company Hayemaker Ringstar, says the veteran has done enough in the sport and needs to call it a day.

"It was hard to see that happen to a friend," Page told Metro.co.uk.

"A lot of people are trying to figure out why that happened. For me, I think because of his body and what he’s done over so many years, he’s not capable of training as intensely as he used to because of his worries about injuries.

"For me, if you’re not able to do the work behind the scenes, the likelihood is you’re going to get those kind of results. I feel if he’s not capable of continuing an elite level of training he needs to say to himself 'Let’s just leave it and focus on other ventures.’

"If you can’t push your body a certain way behind the scenes, you’re body will break down if you try to push it in the ring. You’re not going to be as sharp as you want to because you haven’t called for that from your body before. David’s a wicked guy. He’s doing a lot of stuff behind the scenes in the boxing world, even when he was training. I think if he focuses on that he can help a lot of people, including the likes of myself."
