In a battle of heavyweights, Dave Allen (14-4-2, 11 KOs) pulled off a shocker with a fourth round knockout of previously undefeated prospect Nick Webb (12-1, 10 KOs).
Allen is coming off a ten round TKO loss at the hands of Olympic gold medal winner Tony Yoka, which took place in June in France.
Webb was in action back in February, when he knocked out Ante Verunica in two rounds on the Lawrence Okolie vs. Isaac Chamberlain at the O2 Arena in London.
Webb was using the jab to control the pace, pecking away on Allen in each round. Webb started to land bigger punches in the second, but Allen was also able to land a few punches - with no effect on Webb.
Allen was pushing forward and never stopped coming, yet he was also eating a lot of punches for his trouble. In the fourth he landed a big right hand that sent Webb stumbling back. But then a few minutes later Allen landed a big right hand that sent Webb down and he was badly hurt. Allen was trying to get up, but he was way too hurt and the contest was quickly waved off.
The win was unexpected, where even promoter Eddie Hearn had openly stated that he was shocked by the sudden turn of events in the contest - and said Allen would receive a win bonus for the big knockout.
Allen, Webb accepted the fight on late notice to replace the cancelled fight between Kell Brook and Brandon Cook.
