DALLAS – Errol Spence Jr. admits there were times amid his challenging comeback that he wanted to quit boxing. Whenever those thoughts crossed Spence’s mind, however, he looked toward his family for motivation. Spence primarily was inspired by his two young daughters – 5-year-old Ivy and 3-year-old Violet – and later by the impending birth of his son, Errol III, who was born a month ago, while battling back from injuries sustained during his well-documented car accident in October 2019.

DALLAS – Angel Garcia figures Errol Spence Jr. eventually will stand and trade with his son Saturday night. That mistake, according to Danny Garcia’s father and trainer, will lead to his son knocking out Spence. Angel Garcia went as far as to predict the round in which Danny Garcia will knock out a favored, undefeated welterweight champion who has shown his own iron chin throughout eight years as a pro.

Danny Garcia may well be in the thick of his prizefighting prime, but he has already charted out what his post-career plans may look like. At the top of his priorities, apparently, is to bring a white collar mentality to a fundamentally blue collar pursuit. The welterweight contender from Philadelphia recently expressed his desire to start up a company that will cater to the oft-overlooked financial needs of professional fighters. As the saying goes, fighters fight, but what about their year-end taxes? Their mortgages? Their pensions? All of the facets, in other words, that are associated with the mainstream but are considered beyond the pale of the boxing industry?

Errol Spence and Danny Garcia are two boxers who’ve benefited from that collaborative effort, coming from major sports markets that happen to represent one of the NFL’s fiercest rivalries. Spence’s Dallas Cowboys and Garcia's Philadelphia Eagles have seen better days, yet both remain deep in the hunt in the mediocre NFC East while the two boxers vie for supremacy in a much stronger welterweight division.
