Danny Garcia: record, next fight and profile →
Angel Garcia is certain Errol Spence Jr. hasn’t been hit the way his son will drill Spence on December 5. Danny Garcia’s father and trainer is convinced that if the former WBC welterweight champion catches Spence clean, he’ll become the first opponent to beat the favored, undefeated southpaw.
If anyone knows how hard Danny Garcia punches, it’s Keith Thurman. Their 12-round battle in March 2017 has convinced Thurman that Garcia is capable of knocking out Errol Spence Jr. on Saturday night. The former WBA and WBC welterweight champion still suspects Spence will out-point Garcia in their 12-round fight for Spence’s IBF and WBC 147-pound championships at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
DALLAS – Angel Garcia gets aggravated whenever anyone suggests Errol Spence Jr. is the “A” side in Spence’s upcoming fight against his son. Danny Garcia’s father and trainer is quick to remind people of his son’s strong resume and accomplishments. The outspoken, elder Garcia believes his son has achieved more than the unbeaten Spence and has faced more imposing opposition overall.
If there was any reason Errol Spence forgot why he chose Danny Garcia as his first opponent for 2020, the playful trash talk from the challenger’s side served as an instant reminder. The pair of top-rated welterweights addressed the media to discuss their upcoming unified title fight, which takes place December 5 at AT&T Stadium—home to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys—in Arlington, Texas. Philadelphia’s Garcia (36-2, 21KOs) comes in as a healthy betting underdog, though he and his outspoken father and head trainer, Angel Garcia are brimming with confidence in a bid to begin a second welterweight title reign and fourth overall spanning two weight divisions.
DALLAS – Danny Garcia was more than willing to travel here to fight Errol Spence Jr. in Spence’s proverbial backyard. Angel Garcia, his father and trainer, made sure, however, that none of the officials assigned to their welterweight title fight are from the state of Texas. BoxingScene.com has learned that the Texas Combative Sports Program has approved judges from three separate states, as well as an out-of-state referee, to officiate their 12-round, 147-pound championship match Saturday night at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

DALLAS – Errol Spence Jr. weighed slightly less Friday afternoon than he did the day before he fought Shawn Porter 14 months ago. The unbeaten IBF and WBC welterweight champion had a lot less trouble getting down to the welterweight limit, though, for his fight against Danny Garcia on Saturday night. Spence, who officially weighed 146.4 pounds at the Renaissance Dallas hotel, entered his nine-week training camp in “the low 160s,” as opposed to beginning camp for the Porter fight at nearly 190 pounds.
DALLAS – Errol Spence Jr. was taken aback the first time he checked his social media accounts about two weeks after his scary car accident in October 2019. Spence appreciated the kind, encouraging words mostly from strangers who wished him well in his recovery. The unbeaten IBF and WBC welterweight champion couldn’t help but notice, though, that were some people with real hate in their hearts, most of whom hid behind fake accounts that emboldened them to post mean messages they otherwise wouldn’t.
By Keith Idec - DALLAS – Moving away from downtown Dallas, where his scary car crash occurred, was an important part of Errol Spence Jr.’s recovery. The 30-year-old Spence purchased a ranch away from this huge Texas city. Spence spends plenty of quality time there with his girlfriend and three children, raises horses and cattle, and keeps himself from some of...
Undefeated WBA Super Lightweight Champion, Mario “El Azteca” Barrios (26-0, 17 KOs), who is fresh of his impressive knockout victory over Ryan “Cowboy” Karl (18-3, 12 KOs), will be eyeing the winner of Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (26-0, 21 KOs) vs Danny “Swift” Garcia (36-2, 21 KOs), as he contemplates making the move to welterweight.
