Former undisputed middleweight champion and unified light heavyweight champion, Bernard Hopkins, will be watching Saturday's anticipated contest with a lot of interest. Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) will defend the IBF, WBA, IBO, WBC middleweight titles against mandatory challenger Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) at New York's Madison Square Garden.
Some believe Saturday night's middleweight unification bout will go the distance. Not many, though. The odds of Gennady Golovkin and Danny Jacobs both standing after 12 rounds aren't good. Golovkin has won 33 of his 36 fights by knockout, including the last 23, dating to 2008. Yep, nearly nine years. The Kazakh owns the WBC, IBF, WBA and IBO middleweight crowns.
‘Miracle Man’ and cancer survivor Daniel Jacobs says facing Gennady Golovkin on Saturday night in New York, live on Boxnation, will not be the toughest challenge of his life.
Pound-for-pound ace Gennady Golovkin knows he will be in his toughest fight to date when he takes on knockout king Danny Jacobs on Saturday night. The Kazakh warrior faces cancer survivor and the hard-hitting Jacobs, who has stopped 29 of his 32 opponents, this weekend in New York.
It was an early morning weigh-in on Friday at the Theater of Madison Square Garden where both Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) and Danny Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) came in just a shade under the middleweight limit. Golovkin, the defending IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC world champion weighed 159.6 pounds, while Jacobs tipped the scales at 159.8.
NEW YORK – Tom Loeffler expects the Gennady Golovkin-Daniel Jacobs show to draw more pay-per-view buys than Golovkin’s last pay-per-view appearance. That’s about as far as Golovkin’s promoter would project in terms of how he expects Golovkin-Jacobs to perform on pay-per-view.
Photo Gallery of Weigh-In - Golovkin and Jacobs weighed in at almost exactly the same weight Friday morning inside The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Kazakhstan’s Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) officially weighed 159.6 pounds for their 12-round middleweight title fight at Madison Square Garden. Brooklyn’s Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) weighed 159.8 pounds.
NEW YORK – There figures to be much more weight separating Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs when they enter the ring Saturday night than there was Friday morning. Golovkin and Jacobs weighed in at almost exactly the same weight Friday morning inside The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Kazakhstan’s Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) officially weighed 159.6 pounds for their 12-round middleweight title fight. Brooklyn’s Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) weighed 159.8 pounds. Because their weigh-in was about four hours earlier than usual, at least 38 hours will pass between the time they weigh in and the opening bell for their HBO Pay-Per-View main event. Jacobs is expected to weigh at least five or six pounds more than Golovkin once their fight starts, but Abel Sanchez, Golovkin’s trainer, doesn’t think the earlier weigh-in will amount to more of an advantage for Jacobs than for Golovkin.
NEW YORK – The prevailing feeling is that the Gennady Golovkin-Daniel Jacobs fight will end in a knockout. Kazakhstan’s Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) and Brooklyn’s Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) have combined to knock out 90 percent of their professional opponents. Golovkin takes a 23-fight knockout streak into their middleweight title fight Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.
