Dana White Admits Zuffa Boxing Venture Has Stumbled a Bit

Things have not gone exactly as planned for Dana White's planned venture into boxing.

White, who is the President of the UFC, was planning to branch out his company with a sub-brand called Zuffa Boxing.

In the last few months, White has been speaking with several known boxers - like WBC, IBF lightweight champion Mikey Garcia - with the hope of signing a few of them.

A few weeks back, during an interview with Mario Lopez, White promised a “real ballsy move” with respect to Zuffa Boxing.

“[Boxing is] so broken and so fragmented. It’s just, how do you do it? I’m still poking around figuring out how do I do this? How do I get into this and make it work. First of all if I sign a couple of guys, which I could do, I could go out and sign a couple of big stars — who they gonna fight? In my world, I have 550 fighters under contract, so I can make any fight I want to make. You have to have a deep roster to make great fights. So I wouldn’t have a deep roster right out the gates. I’m still poking around. You’re gonna see, coming up here soon I’m going to make a real ballsy move here pretty soon. We’ll see how it pans out,” White said.

The ballsy move did not come off, for one reason or another.

“This is one of those things I said I’m going to put my toe in, I’m not diving in head first. We’re still working on stuff. A lot of things didn’t line up the way that I thought they would in the boxing world, when I said we’re about to make a ballsy move,” White said on UFC Unfiltered.

“The thing kind of took a left turn, so I wasn’t able to make an offer on that deal yet. But when that deal does happen, and when it comes, I’m going to jump in.”

Stick to the MMA or whatever that is you do over there. This is boxing, different rules of engagement. A lot of promoters have failed already. But no boxers trust you, “Vana White,” because you don’t know [email protected] about boxing!…

He has certain advantages (over the normal guy) with his connections to SACs, venues, etc and a large war chest. I dont think it's enough to just jump in and be a major player let alone revolutionize how the sport…
