Cuadras vs. Estrada Eyed For Chocolatito-Sor Rungvisai HBO Card

By Miguel Rivera

According to Mexican promoter Osvaldo Küchle, the showdown between Mexico's Carlos 'Príncipe' Cuadras  (36-1-1, 27 KOs) and his countryman Juan Francisco 'Gallo' Estrada  (35-2, 25 KOs) is being targeted for September 9 in Los Angeles, as part of the HBO televised undercard for the rematch between Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.

Back in April, the World Boxing Council ordered the two former world champions to face each other in a super flyweight world title eliminator. And the sanctioning body also ordered the rematch between Gonzalez and Sor Rungvisai, who battle for the WBC super flyweight title.

The WBC had initially ordered Cuadras to face the winner of the March world title fight between Sor Rungvisai and Gonzalez. But the controversy involved with the Sor Ringvisai vs. Gonzalez outcome created a big stir in the boxing world.

Sulaimán revised his prior order and instead issued a new one where Gonzalez will get a direct rematch against Rungvisai, and now Cuadras would have to face Estrada for the WBC's interim belt. And the winners of both contests will have to face each other.

Another fight being discussed for this card, would have Japan's Naoya Inoue would be making his United States debut by defending his World Boxing Organization super flyweight championship against Puerto Rico's McJoe Arroyo.

Küchle told ESPN Deportes that the fight between Cuadras and Estrada will be broadcast in Mexico by both Televisa and TV Azteca - becoming the first transmission the rival networks share without having Canelo Álvarez, Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao involved in the main event.

However, TV Azteca would also televise the fight between Chocolatito and Sor Rungvisia, while Televisa could add the rematch between featherweight champions Ábner Mares and Leo Santa Cruz - which is scheduled for that same day but at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
