WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33KOs) of Puerto Rico is preparing for a very physical affair when he takes on Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (45-1-1, 32KOs) on November 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. HBO Pay-Per-View will carry the bout. The fight taking place at a catch-weight of 155-pounds.
Cotto, winner of his last three by knockout, is preparing with his Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California.
He is enjoying the training atmosphere in Los Angeles. Cotto often trains away from home. In recent years he was training down in Florida to get away from any potential distractions at home.
Canelo, the young up and coming star, is the betting favorite to win and that adds further motivation to Cotto.
"Everyone knows about the huge rivalry between Mexican and Puerto Rican fighters. Therefore, on my part, I will do my best for this fight. I just have to follow the instructions of Freddie Roach, follow the game plan, and give the best of myself, as I always do in all my fights," Cotto told Rigo Cervantez.
"I'm preparing for a war. Every fight is different. I'm taking this fight with Canelo seriously. I am not evaluating the best fights that Canelo had to shape my workouts or our game plan. I'm working on what we believe we need to work on to win on November 21."
