Joe Cortez, a former veteran referee and now an expert analyst for major outlets like ESPN Deportes, says the public is still very sour over Floyd Mayweather's last pay-per-view fight - against Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd.

The fight with Pacquiao broke every possible financial record in boxing and had 4.4 million buys on pay-per-view.

The aftermath of that match is another matter. Fans were furious with the lack of action after paying a record $100 dollars for the pay-per-view - and matters were made worse when Pacquiao revealing that he entered the fight with a right shoulder injury.

Cortez considers Mayweather to be a marketing wizard when it comes to promoting a pay-per-view event. He says that magic will not work this time around.

The fight is being promoted as being the final bout of Mayweather's long career. There is a big problem, because very few people believe Mayweather's position on retirement. Almost everyone, including Cortez, expect him to fight again in May - because it will put him in position to break Rocky Marciano's unbeaten record of 49-0.

"I think Mayweather is a very smart fighter and he has managed to sell and market a fighter better than anyone, even Don King. He claims this is his last fight. For me, he's  not fooling me with that this is his last fight, knowing that going for number 50 in the new [MGM] arena in Las Vegas may get him roughly $50 million [as a guarantee]. That fight will sell well and it would be against an opponent that people are willing to pay to see. At the same time, I know that he wants to break the record of Rocky Marciano," Cortez told El Vocero.
