Conrad Cummings didn’t have to wait long for news of his next fight.
The Coalisland middleweight suffered disappointment last week after it was revealed that his showdown against Ronny Mittag had been cancelled.
Cummings (10-1-1) had been set to face Germany’s Mittag in a rematch for the latter’s IBF Inter-Continental title on Saturday at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, exclusively live on Channel 5, as part of the undercard to Craig Kennedy’s vacant British cruiserweight title clash against Stephen Simmons.
But Cyclone Promotions were forced to can the whole promotion after Simmons, a replacement for injured original opponent Matty Askin, then pulled out.
That left Cummings, as well as Andrew Selby, Jason Sillett and a whole host of other talents, in limbo as to when they would next box again.
However, the McGuigan-fronted outfit have pulled out all the stops for their previously undefeated charge, 25, and he will return to action later this month.
Cummings will now come up against Gogi Knezevic (31-6-1, 13 KOs) over 12 rounds at the Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland, as part of the supporting cast to Josh Taylor’s Commonwealth super-lightweight title defence against South Africa’s Warren Joubert.
The clash, which will have the vacant WBO European middleweight title at stake, will take place on March 24 and is set to be flanked by the second pro outing of Iain Trotter, the super-lightweight clash between Jason Easton and Zoltan Szabo and the 10th fight in the paid career of Connor Law.
Elsewhere on the card, British super-featherweight title challenger Ronnie Clark will box on the bill and further additions are expected to be revealed in due course.
