Usky is 39 year old. The age in boxing where 95% plus are well past their shelf life.
But Usyk has treated his body like a temple. He is always in shape and based on his recent training clips has retained almost all of his quickness and agility from years ago . To watch him train is astounding for a 39 year old.
He has gradually earned a place in the top 15 heavyweights of all time with a strong case for being in the top ten in my opinion!
His next fight is against the world's best professional heavyweight kickboxer in May 2026. The big and powerful Rico Verhoeven. While Rico's combat experience is significant, he is a boxing newbie. Usyk it at the age where champions typically play games and fight men for marketing reasons rather than boxing ability.
He has earned that right to do so. A heavy favorite as high as 33-1, Usyk will likely dominate this match. But Verhoeven has a puncher's chance and is very durable. The man has not been stopped since 2011.
The question here is how many months does Uusk have left being on top. At least 20 more months I say.
He has not had many hard fights. Nor has he suffered any bad injuries.

You’re not wrong. Oleksandr Usyk has clearly extended his prime through discipline and a low damage style. That gives him more longevity than most heavyweights his age. Against Rico Verhoeven, the boxing experience gap is huge, so Usyk should win comfortably despite Rico’s toughness. Realistically, he probably has around 1.5 to 2 years left at the top, depending on how often he fights and the level of opposition he chooses.
Yes, and they had many boxing matches in the amateurs and pro's before a title fight. Rico has just one. So...
What I'm not getting is that in his prime days K1 style fighting was too rough for Miller while in boxing barely lost to Dubois (if not for the unlucky ending) who is the one of the names that is supposed to make Usyk resume stand out, and has arguably knocked down Usyk. In that regard this match does have value although Rico indeed only has 1 match in experience so it remains to be seen how well the transitioning takes place.

That is why I am happy that this match is happening to iron things out between this particular crossover given the success of other grassroots kickboxing/martial arts fighters in the boxing sport.

When all these chaps had their caps on the Ammys Rico was already fighting Sem Schilt besides if K1 style fighting was so easy Baby Miller surely should have gotten to be champ back when he was in his prime ?

When all these chaps had their little headcaps on Rico was already fighting Semmy Schilt the GOAT of kickboxing and more.
Vitali and Mairis did transition for boxing however at its core I don't think the grassroots martial art/kickboxing approach ever left them. Bet that Rico is not going to play by the boxing rules in terms of some trainer saying you have to duck you have to turn like this, is going to impose his own style of kickboxing power boxing similar to Breidis but 40lbs bigger.

I get the comparison but all those guys committed to the sport way younger in life and spent many years boxing before fighting the world number 1. Rico is 37

I think usyk will fight twice this year then retire, it's not just the fights it's the intense training camps. He also had 350 amateur fights. He could possibly do 2 more next year but it's a risk
Im a fan so hope he gets out before he gets old over night.
With the war Ukraine war continuing, usyk might continue a little longer
Rico cleared former Soviet countries in kickboxing for many years, beats Hrgovic handily in a shootout as Hrgo folded against Dubois last time, Rico got on top of all those type of fights, difference in mental game. Mairis Breidis was brought up as a kickboxer that later turned to boxing and it was Usyk's toughest fight, Klitschko's were kickboxers as well alongside their boxing. Kickboxers train on sustained power endurance as there is a maximum of 5 rounds of explosive action and there is no running, the particular type of game Breidis and Klitschko's were also good at.

The man is a boxing newbie. He is up against a boxing master. Outside of the proverbial pucher chance ( Usyk has a very good chin by the way, mitigating it ) he has next to none.
Having beaten the three highest ranked contenders in Fury, Joshua, and Dubois, all that left was Kabel or maybe an easy fight vs the hyped and exposed Wilder.
Perhaps Hrgovic though I doubt he will go there.

Imho, he has a few years left if he wants. Hes never taken damage, his ring iq is top notch and although wardley and itauma are promising, they get beat up if they fight him
Can you believe Moses Itauma said he has a greater skillset and boxing IQ than Usyk?
