Do you think the "2021 Version" of "Canelo" that fought BJS and Caleb Plant would have given Terence Crawford troubles? | BoxingScene Community
Not taking anything away from Terence Crawford. Fact is, I betted on Crawford to win due to the decline I seen in Canelo in recent years. He didn't look the same when he last peaked in 2021/2022 vs. BJS/Caleb Plant and Bivol.
Would the fight have been closer / different if it was the "2021" version of Canelo that fought Crawford last year in 2025?

I like what Fat Dave is doing, not letting other fighters control his career maybe he can make Cruiser matter since I don't see him moving up to HW ever.Spray must not know Fat Dave goes far out ahead into the distant future
I think this habit will get him upset

I think styles make fights, Caleb's boxing style gave Fat Dave problem's early on, even a bit like Andrade did but he just starts breaking these guys down as the fights progress. Saul Santos is a notorious fader in fights, Fat Dave's high output would've been in a nightmare for Saul Santos in rounds 8-12. He'd probably be forced to circle the perimeter of the ring as he did in GGG 1 just to avoid taking too much punishment/getting stopped on his feet.Fat Dave slows down in rounds 9-12 too
Buff Guy Jai is another fader in rounds 9-12. Mairis got the better of both of these rounds in both fights
both having limited gas tanks makes a Buff Guy Jai Fat Dave fight intriguing
who gets the better of the final rounds
Unfortunately that speaks about him as fighter more than anything. Some fighters with certain styles like Roy Jones Jr for example became more vulnerable as they aged because they couldn't execute their A game, others found different ways to adapt like Floyd Mayweather Jr. It's my opinion that from 2019 after KOing Kovalev Canelo became too obsessed with power at the expense of everything else. Also I think the Bivol loss really effected him mentally to the point where he was unsure of his abilities moving forward.
Top Soviet Bivol was a wakeup call for Santos level
S Tier Floyd
A+ Tier TBud
A Tier Top Soviet Bivol
A- Tier Santos

it can happens when you fight BOTH of the top 2 p4p like bivol and crawford..
and with crawford case, he had 24 foot ring to move like he never has before..,
they gave him the win but
he didnt land more power punches to the head or body~~~ was outlanded to the body by double, !! DOUBLE, and those were power punches
CANELO outlanded crawford in 6 of the rounds while coming forward
crawford , the only thing he outlanded were jabs, with canelo rolling most of them.
it wAS A 1 point loss on two cards!
we want our rematch but crawford as quick to retire
This is just crazy.
Man, are you serious? Compare the two bouts between the Caleb Plant one and the one with Terence Crawford.
Canelo in the fight with Caleb Plant used a lot of upperbody movements, changing levels from up and down with a lot of feints. He was limited with those in the Crawford fight. I think it was in the John Ryder or Jermell Charlo fight, him and his trainer said he can't move like he used too - I'm guessing that is from too much mileage/age.

canelo just got a new arm repair,
its like new again. ready for the run to 100 fights ,
it probably hyperextended landing so much on crawford body ,the one he had specifically trained for a year while canelo was grinding in real fights, having to carry the burden due to lack of big boxing stars because guys like crawford and usyk who only like to fight once a year !!
Caleb fights are why I have Saul Santos a level better than Fat Dave
Saul Santos best clear wins
8-4 way past prime golovkin
come from behind late ko washed Kovalev
8-4 undersized way past prime Miguel
Saul Santos is all time great but far from a super great

Insane levels of delusion.
feel free to back that up with some numbers, !
bivol and crawford are top 2 p4p :headbang:
crawford had 24 foot ring :headbang:
canelo outlanded crawford to the head and body:headbang:
canelo only needed 1 round to walk with his titles:headbang:
crawford retired after fighting canelo:headbang:

I'm a Nelo fan, but I thought he lost fair and square to Crawford. Style match-up, Bivol beats him.
Canelo hasn't looked the same in recent years. Especially from the Plant/Bivol matches

Are we overlooking the fact that Bud is older than Canelo by like 3 years? Was this really Bud's athletic peak?
BJS and Plant are not good indicators of anything decent B+ level fighters though.
NO KING RULES FOREVER' MY SON. An athletes life is a short one... especially in Boxing.
Nelo making it to mid 30s says a lot
Well duh,
The reason we all thought Crawford would win is because we saw Canelo had slipped drastically.
Nobody in their right mind would pick against the #1 fighter in the world when he's fighting a guy essentially from 3 weight divisions back.
They were weight classes apart,
they were weight classes apart when crawford jumped up so what's the difference
Oh yeah Canelo was over the hill you know cherrypicker hate fighters that can hit them back
I guess you taking all the excuses you had for Floyd and moving them over to Bud
This is the guy who was totally befuddled by Scull, Saul Santos will take an easy last 2 fights forget Fat Dave never going to happen.Fat Dave may become a perma cruiser
and at this rate Santos a perma 175

Santos has gotten fat in the meantime

Canelo wasn't even that good against Plant tbh, yes he knocked him out but up until that point it was a close fight with maybe a point in it either way. After the loss we found out how average Plant really was. As for Saunders, he wasn't living the life of an athlete outside the ring. Crawford has many more strings to his bow than Canelo, he goes through the gears, has ability to adapt in fights and is super spiteful.
I think Crawford would've beat that version on Canelo roughly 8 rounds to 4

Lol if that is the case why didn't Crawford take the risk before Canelo lost like 3 steps
You can’t be this fucking dumb.
They were weight classes apart, each one fighting to unify those weight classes.
They fought at a point when Canelo didn’t want to lose at 175 and didn’t want to lose to Benavidez.
He was getting criticism for ducking Benavidez so he offered Crawford as a face saving attempt. He didn’t offer Crawford a fight before that. Thats why they didn’t fight.
To frame that as Crawford waiting is dishonest. Please dude go away.
No. Crawford was always better than Canelo and would beat any version. That isn’t a knock on Canelo in any way.
It’s ok if Canelo isn’t as good as Crawford.
