He had a power, but the had a power of a prime heavyweight, when he was in his prime, that is all.
His power was never anything special. Stieverne ate everything Wilder had in the first fight. Duhaupas ate everyhing, the fight was stopped because of a cut. Fury was dropped many times by Wilder, but Fury was dropped many times by other guys also. Parker was never hurt. Zhang was never hurt by Wilder`s punch.
I think Itauma and Wardley hit harder and with more devastating damage Wilder ever did.
I believe Wilder did have power in that right hand, but he was otherwise very limited. This is highly likely due to the fact that he didn't start boxing until he was 20. His youth and athleticism allowed him to time his opponents and land his signature shot, but both of those factors are diminished now. I think it's safe to say that he has gone about as far as he ever will in the sport.
Put Joshua in with everyone Wilder fought and he would possibly be undefeated if he could have beat Fury he kos the rest like wilder did
Its such a terrible resume and the media built him up as something hes not
He ironed out dinner jacket frogs and an old cuban who was already in the process of rigor mortis
Oh and he went life and death with a guy with rhabdomyolysis

I agree with you 100% and have always said the same thing.
Against guys who stood back and allowed him to load up and swing for the fences he had power.
When fighters came forward against him it was completely negated.
There's a reason that most fighters don't do what Deontay did. But the level of opposition he faced meant he got away with it.
He was pretty good at it for someone with limited boxing ability.
Get off the gas, he’s knocked out 44 dudes, most of em prob all over 200 pounds, what is he if he isn’t a knockout puncher.
The best guy he knocked out was Luis Ortiz
And Mike Tyson had the best of Luis Ortiz in the catskills in the late 1970s when Mike was a teenager and Ortiz was already almost 30
Those sparring wars with Mike really wore on Ortiz punch resistance
He does have power, even Zhang said it from when wilder was mean't to be punching less powerfully. It's the 83 inch reach and the speed he gets the right hand off at - anywhere near the temple or behind the ear and guys are in trouble.
wilder just appears to be one of those fighters who has a very low fighting IQ with poor fundamentals but also happens to have a redeeming quality being the right hand. Against a certain level of opposition he looks like a dangerous killer whereas against more technical & cerebral guy's he looks out of his depth and is unable to connect with his signature punch.
His right hand was legit. He don't have the legs or reflexes to deliver it anymore. He has no other skills so now he will be name in someone's resume. He is older now too, most of the power was from the explosive speed he delivered it once he got the range right for it with that pawing jab. Deontay Windmill Wilder built like a basketball player and has that explosiveness
doesnt come across as a heavy handed
Impressive capped deltoid muscles gotta admit
ah hi mottte and bailey. you implied he had great power by saying he knocked out 44 opponents as if that means anything but the important question is who were those 44? literally only 1 opponent he has ever knocked out has been ranked by ring magazine. that means he was knocking out weak opposition. percentage wise he knocked out 2 of 8 top 10 ring opponents so 25% and the 2 were the same guy which makes it even less impressive. you are giving wilder accolades and credit because he fought weak opposition for so long when that should be seen as a bad thing, not a good thing. if he had stepped up earlier his power stats would have decreased but because he fought such crappy opposition he developed a reputation which was false. this reputation was carefully crafted purposefully, not built on luck or anything like that.
You are trying to put words in my mouth. Good luck with that.
Point me at where I said he was the 'biggest puncher ever.'

wasnt luck. it was purposeful. they matched him soft. he could get 100 ko's over that level of opposition. doesnt make him the biggest puncher ever.

He must have just been lucky to have found 44 guys with weak chins.

A pucher as Wilder was can smash grade B tomato cans. It is how good of a puncher he was, including thier losses and records of ring ranked opponents which can determine how good they really are in the department ... especially if they landed a lot of punches vs. them as Wilder did as you chronicled.
He is overrated. Period. His management gets a thumbs up for making him a lot of money.
People he sparred with have embellished and responsible for it. Tyson fu ry, David haye said wilder hit hard. So depends who you ask. Ask chisora
