How do defensive cuties even make it in the game?
I posted this before, my old coach told me only those who are knocking mfers out should go pro... I know its wrong albeit.
Look at Pernell sweet pea may be rest in peace, you'd think along the line somebody somewhere woulda tried to break his spirit just like the community tried to do for Jon Ruiz. Hear me out Ruiz is not a cutie lol but you get what I'm saying right? When/ if people are calling you the remedy to insomnia that has gotta weigh heavy in the soul, especially in a prideful sport like boxing.
Look at Chris Byrd? The way he made it to the top of the boxing game was to pack on the likes of 30 to 40 pounds of weight and sacrifice his health to these giants at hw. I was remembering Chris said earlier in his career noone wanted to give him fights or even look at him or bat at him as much as an eye. So that one there was reality is the solution (move up to the glamour division).
What about dude that is winky weight? I'm simply assuming here but didn't he have to face bronco mckart 3 times because he couldn't land another fight? In all his big fights that I've seen on HBO he was super tight with the guard, it was air tight. In fact the Colonel Bob Sheridan torted that Tito Trinidad should punch winky in the balls because that's the only open target lol.
Who else was smooth in terms of defence as slipperiness? Methinks Emmanuel Clottey (perhaps Joshua) was a very boring style with his concrete guard. Pacquiao threw everything in the book at him even a double punch. Cotto managed to drop Clottey to an aside.
How do defensive orientated fighters make it to the top in such a violent sport? Nobody wants to see them, watch them or watch their fights!
Just a last story: I heard that Ivan Calderon the minimum weight boxer was schooling Oscar de la Hoya in sparring while Freddie Roach was Oscars coach. He KNEW Pacquiao s style (smaller southpaw) was gifted with the Ivan Calderon blue print!
What other fighters did I miss who sre generally defensive technician s and how did they make it in the game??
True box fans will pay for excellence
Floyd and Pernell weren’t just defensive wizards
they were the best boxers
Floyd has a personality too
personality does more for stardom than having the most violent style
aside from Mike Tyson all the biggest draws weren’t the most violent style for their time
for a modern day example Pure Box Top Soviet Bivol is more popular than KO Puncher Buff Guy Artur
Who gives a UCK about what casuals want they aren’t the paying customers
true box fans pay for fights. Defensive masters use good boxing to get the attention of true box fans
