I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on how the fight will go down in Nevada and who wins. Barrios is a very conventional fighter, who doesn't do anything special. He does have a very stiff jab, he's a good counter puncher, his heart and determination carries his career in my opinion. We all know about the raw talent of Ryan, his left hook, and his explosiveness. The problem I have with Barrios is he can be too predictable which is something Ryan can capitalize on. I know if Garcia can find a chink in his armor, then he's going in for the kill. The only reason I'm hesitating is because Garcia looked SMALL next to him in the face off. Ryan Garcia hasn't demonstrated yet that he has the power to hurt guys at 147. I think he does and he will redeem himself.
Garcia by 8th KO.
Think Garcia will irritate Ryan with his jab and win the first rounds due to his height and Ryan's also only able to press and backpedal in a straight line.
Then like Abel Ramos, Ryan will catch him and will have more opportunities with Barrios will be worse off. Think Barrios has good odds despite that, because I see that he has nothing special, but he is taller, and is better rounded than Ryan is. Which might be enough to go the distance if Garcia is inconsistent.
Look at what's happened to Giyasov. He was #1 to Boots at welter before the WBA reneged on their commitment and created a random 'regular' belt for Garcia and Romero who had never fought at the weight, effectively inserting the winner between Giyasov and Boots. With Romero since upgraded, he's now being permitted to sit on the belt and leverage it for bigger paydays rather than be stripped. Meanwhile Garcia gets another title shot coming off a loss.
It depends on the fighter, honestly. Madrimov got a championship fight after being a pro for about 5 years and Loma got a Championship shot in his second fight. A lot of eastern Europeans have an extensive amateur career while Mexicans turn pro at age 15 lol.
Everyone goes on their own path.
Thoughts? Wack fight. Predictions? Boxing loses cause this does nothing to move the needle. No excitement, nobody talking about it, not a lot of interest, from hardcore or casuals for that matter
Look how long it took Barboza to get a shot, eliminator after eliminator. A lot of eastern euro block get title fights with 10 fights or more. It is all about the promotion company they are affiliated with and the deals that can get done.
There you go again with American this and American that. He is getting shot because he is popular, Barrios is the low hanging fruit and will take the payday. There are tons of British fighters that have gotten shots because they are popular and they are a good payday.
I don't like that Garcia is getting a shot without really doing anything but the sport has always done this. There are other fighters that have fought their way into contention but have to wait forever to get a shot.
It pisses me off that hard working, talented guys like Bivol, Giyasov and Stanionis get messed around while Americans and Mexicans are given endless concessions to make more money despite being less worthy.
My thoughts are that this matchup has no credibility and that Garcia is getting a title shot because he's an American edgelord. I hope to read in the morning that he got splattered and permanently retired.

If Garcia has been disciplined and has trained to win he should be able to start timing Barrios and negate his height. If he thinks that he is coming to walk over Barrios he will have a long night. Barrios has no special effects but has the basic skills down, has stamina and stays in the fight.
Yeah, I can see Barrios catching him with sharp counter punches considering Ryan's footwork isn't very good. Barrios does fight better in the later rounds, and he does have the heart and endurance to go 12 rounds. The longer this fight goes will only benefit Barrios. It does look like Ryan has been locked in, and he realizes his reputation is on the line in this fight and he has to win. So I think Garcia will KO him but I'm not very confident in that pick.
