I've been a fan of boxing since I was a kid. I discovered this forum when I was 13 and now I'm 33...
I've seen the height of Floyd's reign.... and now I've seen the height of Crawford's reign.. and when I begin to compare them, Floyd's reign has now become a bit funny to me.
Don't get me wrong.. if they fight in fantasy, prime to prime at 147lbs I'd pick and root for Floyd...
But man, Bud Crawford is just the epitome of a boxing champion, he's just somebody who wants to bang, never had a lot of diva moves, no outside the ring issues, smart on and off the ring, good father, never disrespectful, doesn't duck anybody... he just wants to fight and win... and the list goes on... it's like you can't just ask for more from a champion... I'm not even a long time fan of the guy.
While during Floyd's reign? mannn... even if you're an ultimate fan it was hard to defend him at many points in his career. I like the guy, I don't find him boring - like them straight haters or call his style running.. maybe I'm even his biggest Filipino fan... but man, he just did a lot of silly things during his reign -- maybe now forgotten by the new generation since they don't really keep those tabs on it--
Here's the list of the a-bit-funny stuffs (people who been in here since maybe 2008 would know):
- His constant cry for self preservation citing that "Ali took fights he shouldn't have" because he got pressure. referring to Norton fights when he was asked about fighting Pacman in 2009-2010
- Crying about his health after fighting against Maidana I - Man I couldn't imagine crawford ever doing that
- Video of him in an interview where he was consistently monitoring where Margarito was... WTF... This was peak of when he was accused of ducking
- Video of him getting pushed out by 50 cent in a red carpet so that he doesn't get included in the picture but he kept on standing there - that was hilarious
- Video of his ex during a red carpet trying to run away from him and he was like chasing them wtf...
- Choosing Maidana's gloves... (though maybe he has good reasons) but now man we here Crawford getting ask which one he wants and he said "it doesn't matter" "They're all the same"
- Coming 2lbs over the limit against 135lber moving 2 weight classes
- Demanding a catchweight against Nelo even though he was a champ twice at 154lbs already wtf.
- breaking up with his BFF 50 cent because 50 cent wanted to make the pacquiao fight happen
- Him ducking pacquiao for years has already been forgiven and forgotten because he won against him... but man cmon.. Drug testing issue was solved way back 2012 when Pacquiao sent Konkz to Floyd's camp to negotiate 40-40, and 20 goes to the winner.
(I don't have links for this but them old heads here could remember)
I could site many more... and though Floyd has unbelievable talent, brain and skills as a boxer.. even with all the "hardwork and dedication" chants he was rarely or never viewed as the epitome of a boxing champion during his prime... he was never viewed or admired the way Crawford is being admired now.
thoughts?
Fighters and great champion's pre 1980, were not weight draining themselves extensively the way Terrence Crawford was during his entire career to avoid fighting at his more natural fighting weight. So in that regards? I don't really think Crawford is the epitome of a Champion, all-time great fighters such as Sugar Ray Robinson and Henry Armstrong, did not weight drain themselves to be the big man on fight night'.
Floyd Mayweather Junior on how he approached the sport, in terms of his training and preparation 'more closely resembled all of those old school great fighters. Floyd Mayweather never weight drained himself extensively, and always stayed close to his fighting weight all year round'.
Note: Mayweather along with fighters such as Bernard Hopkins, and Carl Froch 'were some of the last true old school fighters in terms of their conduct in the sport from the lower weight divisions. They predominately relied on old school training methodologies to prepare for their fights and they did not incorporate the modern day toxic practices such as weight draining tactics to prepare for fights'.
Terrence Crawford for sure? In this modern era of boxing can be considered the epitome of a champion. But only under the rules and regulations of boxing post 1980 i.e. the use of the day before weigh in rule, has distorted the perception of boxing viewers. Being a multi weight world Champion in this modern era, in my opinion does not really have anywhere near the level of significance as it did in boxing pre-1980'.
Terrence Crawford only really just now in 2025, has decided to fight at his more natural fighting weight 'it is common knowledge that, in between fights Crawford walks around at a fairly solid 180 + pounds. This means that for the majority of his career, he has been competing against fighters nowhere near his natural fighting weight, and the reason he moved up through the weight divisions was because? Naturally overtime weight draining tactics, have a negative accumulative effect on a fighters overall conditioning and well being. This is what ultimately forces them into moving up through the weight divisions'.
So overall Terrence Crawford is a great champion 'but he is what I like to refer to as? A modem day great champion. Those types of fighters are really only going to be great in this modern era, and there no real hardcore evidence that they could compete with past all-time great fighters on a level playing field'.
To conclude: If Terrence Crawford was to travel back in time to all the boxing era's pre 1980 'well he can no longer used weight draining tactics, to avoid fighting at his more natural fighting weight. Which would most likely be a 160 pound, middle weight fighter'.
I am fairly certain that Terrence Crawford would be a solid fighter, because he clearly has skills and boxing ability 'but he has shown no real evidence that he would be able to travel back in time, and maintain his current form and compete in all boxing eras'.
Whereas in comparison? Floyd Mayweather Junior throughout his entire career 'showed himself to be an old school fighter. He is more the epitome of a classic boxing champion than Terrence Crawford, and that is just an objective fact. In my opinion, Floyd Mayweather Junior would be able to travel back in time to all the great boxing eras and still be a World to elite level fighter at the very least. It would be very difficult, but there is just more evidence in his career that he had that level of ability more than Terrence Crawford' etc.
At least HE WON :lol1:
Maidana > Broner, Baby Margarito, Lucas, Alcherry, Mosley, Vargas, HORN (CPGW)........
True, floyd got his gift, but only reason he saw 12 rounds because maidana didn't have his punchers gloves
The fighters I listed were the only prime ones
Unfortunately it wasn't Shane Manny Cotto
He'll Arturo Gatti wasn't prime
Didn't you say Evander Holyfield was in his prime in 2003 at 43 years old? :lol1:
What do you know about who is and isn't in their prime?
Haters say DLH beat May
It was the prototypical close but CLEAR.
It's easy because everyone matches May with everyone considered to be ATGs.
Very rarely do people mention Pac in that regard.
Very rarely is Pac the fighter other fighters aspire to be.
Ruslan almost killed Desert Breeze
Timmeh was the Temu version of May.
Without trying to be hurtful, YOU are the last person who's opinion anyone takes seriously :lol1:
Pac could not survive May's resume.
May would still be undefeated with Pacs flimsy resume.
Floyd made maidana look like he was dealing with Roberto duran. Why couldn't he deal with maid ana like devon Alexander and Khan did? Floyd made connor mcgregor look like an ATG. Pac would probably ko connor in 2 rounds, then floyd stans would say Floyd beat a prime Connor and beat connor first, so Floyd's wins better?
Floyd loses to thurman at 41 years old, and he loses against bradley who was better than maidana.
But as floyd gets gifts, never count floyd out.
Pac could win titles in 10 divisions and youd still be in denial Pac is pfp the best fighter of the era.
The fighters I listed were the only prime ones

He'll Arturo Gatti wasn't prime
The Gatti May beat > Broner, Baby Margarito, Clottey, Lucas, Alcherry, Hatton......
Like Floyd's pops
:haha:
Hey Google,
Did Jr have a rocky relationship with Sr ?
"Yes, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., had a famously difficult relationship marked by public feuds, estrangement, and a complicated mix of love and rivalry. Their relationship was volatile, stemming from Mayweather Sr.'s initial training, his jail time during his son's rise, a public falling out after 2000, and a period of no contact that lasted for years before they eventually reconciled."
May vs DLH,
2007
Pac bois are funny AF
So he cherrypicked other champions and top ranked
The fighters I listed were the only prime ones

Many think dlh best floyd, even the man himself. DLH is convinced he beat floyd.
It's easy to say Floyd beats everyone on pac S resume when floyd don't fight anyone does he?! Lil floyd was never going to fight thurman, bradley x3 was he, yet you bring attention to pac not fighting Nel o like pacs somehow obligated to?
It's getting to the point where people don't think you conclude floyd was best of era because your un informed but rather just trolling now, there's just too many inconsistencies in your reasoning to be coincidence?
