Why did we lose him so early?
He was having a comeback fight, family even saying he was doing good. Can anybody tell us what happened to the man?
I loved that man. RIP Ricky Hatton, the champion that was one of us.
He's had demons his whole life.
Loads of family drama, didn't talk to his parents for years, stuff with his wives popping up a lot
Loads of substance abuse issues
He never could get over what happened vs Pacquiao, has his ill fated comeback and then an emotional breakdown in the ring post fight
I saw something fairly recently where he was in a really bad state in a nightclub in Ibiza, other posters were all "oh he's just having fun" but Ricky was nearly 50, and the behaviour just seemed to me like a guy who was trapped in a timewarp in the early 2000s.
I don't know if it was self inflicted directly, or accidental and caused by substances but it certainly wasn't natural causes.
I am not meaning to sound cold by the way, Ricky was a good bloke, an emotional bloke, and he needed help and that was obvious for years, but he was surrounded by enablers so yeah, that's what happens sadly.
Longstanding depression, a lot of public masking (hence people thinking he was 'doing well') and an inability to find purpose would be my summation.
Very sad and unnecessary in my opinion.
