If you are good enough a 20lb weight difference is nothing
Get rid of half of boxings weight classes, cruiserweight is just for scared heavyweights to hide in, 168lb can make 160 or 175 and we don't need most of the midget classes.
6 weight classes in boxing should be enough
Too many lighter weight divisions it's crazy. It should start from the below.
126.
147
160
175
205

I don't actually think, being a multi weight world champion post 1980 means much historically 'only just now in 2025, has Terrence Crawford decided to fight closer to his more natural fighting weight. It has been common knowledge in the boxing community, that Crawford in-between fights walks around at a rather solid 180 + pounds. The only reason why he has been able to start his career in the lower weight divisions, is because the altercations to the weigh in rules post 1980'.
If Terrence Crawford was competing in the eras, of the same day weigh in rule 'he would have had to start his professional career at a much higher weight. And that most likely would have been the 160 pound middle weight divisions in my opinion'.
Note: I am still more impressed with Oleksandr Uysk's feats of achievement, moving up from the Cruiserweight Divisions and competing against predominately super heavyweight fighters. I think from a share physiological perspective, Uysk's wins vs both Tyson Fury I & II and Anthony Joshua I & II are superior to Terrence Crawford's win over Canelo Alvarez'.
I have no issue with the weight divisions, but? In this modern era of boxing, I don't put too much value on fighters in the lower weight classes moving up through the divisions. All this shows me? Is that for whatever reason, those fighters who choose to weight drain themselves do not want to compete against fighters more closer to the natural fighting weight'.
This is why Floyd Mayweather Junior is without any doubt skill for skill 'a miles better fighter than Terrence Crawford. Floyd Mayweather Junior throughout his entire career, never weight drained himself or? Believed he was obligated to body build himself up into a weight division to compete. Mayweather predominately during his career, relied of old school training methodologies to prepare for his fights'.
Terrence Crawford is an all time great fighter, but the reality is? He has just fought a version of Canelo Alvarez miles outside of his peak, and who has for some time now been unable fight at a high pace and go through the gears in his fights. There was not much difference in the weight of Crawford and Alvarez on fight night, as I think both fighters were close in fight night weight'.
To conclude: So therefore Terrence Crawford has not proven that boxing does not need weight classes, he proves that post 1980 'Boxing weight classes are not really functioning how they have for the large majority of boxing history. Pre - 1980 fighters competing in their chosen divisions were legitimate fighters at that weight. They did not weight drain themselves to make the weight, and far more fighters competed closer to their natural fighting weight. The competition was more pure, and significant'.
Terrence Crawford in my opinion has shown zero evidence that he could compete in any boxing era pre 1980, and maintain his recent form 'Because he would be forced right from the very start of his career, to compete at his more natural fighting weight. So he would most likely still be a great middle weight fighter, but that is about it'.
Terrence Crawford should only really be compared to fighter's post - 1980, I don't really think he can be compared to fighters such as Sugar Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong fighters who during those pre 1980 boxing eras fought in multiple weight divisions' etc.
100% agree. Moving up and down weights is nonsense - that's not why weight divisions exist. It's become a skill in itself.
And lineal status being applied within divisions is ridiculous. It's THE man who beat THE man. Typically and almost exclusively that's in the heavyweight division. Not some contorted method of figuring out whether they weighed a few grams under an arbitrarily set limit the day before a fight.
That is true.
If a career 135 -147 guy beats a super middleweight, than it is a proof all these divisions are fake.
We don`t need half of them. And, sure, bring back the same day weight inn.
Well duh, we've been telling y'all this for years when y'all started buying into that "bigger is better" nonsense.
Plenty of historically great fighters would be holding it down at HW, even giving 20, 30 lbs away.
Instead of 17 divisions, just have 10.

Usyk was a big enough crusier white boy to demonstrate this perfectly fortunately Fury made enough money from the 2 fights to afford all of the fast food he could ever want and gigatyrone Josh would be killing it on tinder even if he was a literal bum. :luvbed:
Buff Guy Joshua = Modern Day Black Adonis
Sexy Sergio = Latino Adonis
Usyk beating up a bunch of bodybuilders and burger boys.cruiser is big white boys who aren't buff enough for heavyweight
Buff Guy Joshua focuses more on having a sexy body to be GigaTyrone than his boxing skills
Fury likes cheeseburger and fries

I am fine with this126 to 175 the sweet spot:cool:
cruiser is ass. heavyweight makes up for the size with power
Relax, Crawford came into the ring about the same size as Canelo. It was a calculated risk against a past prime fighter with no huge physical advantages. I doubt he would make that move to fight a guy at his peak with a height/reach advantage, with a comparable skill level. TBud did an original great 8 weights style jump going from 154 to 168
it similar to 160 to 175 or 147 to 160

crawford and usyk proved they are all time greats and other 20 000 boxers currently ARE NOT. they need weight classes. and if you don't care about them, why should anybody care about your wishes?
Those other 20 000 are bums then
How will they ever know if they are good enough if they hide behind weight classes.

There are only 3 four division lineal kings in the history of boxing. Floyd, Manny, and Crawford. That's it.
That three ridiculously exceptional fighters accomplished something and nobody else did just shows that we do, in fact, need all these weight classes.
World title holders at 112 move up three pounds to 115 and get obliterated all the time. Weight classes exist for a reason and exceptional fighters doing exceptional things doesn't change that.
What we don't need are half a dozen "world" title belts in each weight class. That's where you trim the fat, not in the divisions themselves.
