..he is once a year fighter.
Canelo was a face of boxing because people have seen him fighting twice of three times a year.
Crawford has fought 3 times in the last 3 years.
His activity is very poor, that is why he is not even popular.
Pacman was the smiling assassin. Always happy and joyful so he has that likability factor. Crawford isn't ugly. He's better looking than Mike Tyson and Mayweather.energy is contagious
manny barely talks but is a happy guy
people like that
Mike and Floyd weren’t exactly handsome either
I think what holds TBud back is he’s not a particularly engaging character and likes to be left alone
Muhammad was extra every time he met someone and would narrate every conversation
Sugar Leonard was interview trained
Mike was a raw unfiltered personality who’d go off the cuff
Oscar acted like a celebrity
Floyd was willing to talk enough to be charismatic
manny is a cheerful guy

difference was all the good fighters were with top rank when floyd was with them so it didnt make sense to leave. top rank only had an old pac when crawford was there, all the other welters like thurman spence and porter were pbc
I am speaking of welterweights. Crawford's situation was very similar to Mayweather's. Mayweather was literally begging Arum for an Oscar De La Hoya fight for years but Bob never delivered it for him.
Which was one of the reason's why he left the company. Also, who are some of these good fighters are you speaking of at Toprank when the time Floyd was there? All I know is that Mayweather chased an Oscar fight with Toprank but never got one.
He had to settle for a Zab Judah fight instead as a consolation prize.
True, only fighting once a year what was bud doing the other 10 months of year? He was training for nelo, so fighting once a year is a good game plan to execute the bigger picture, which was to beat nelo
Bud never had the charisma. And he never tried to make it up with increasing his activity. Love it or hate it.
Which is why he’ll never be the face of boxing. Some hardcore fans may feel that way about him now, but ppl wont think that in a couple months.
I suppose Pacman had that status because he literally fought everyone that the fans wanted. Not the case with TC.
As much as I love Bud Crawford; A lot of that was partly of his own undoing and his management team that folks are just starting to notice him now.
He allowed TopRank to hold him back. Just like they did Mayweather. By extending his contract every time it was up to prevent him from signing with the PBC.
When knew he was never going to get the Pacquiao or Spence fights under Bob Arum. Had he left years prior; He could have fought Thurman and Danny Garcia, Guerrero, Berto, Broner and the rest of the good welterweights.

The dude being 38 and probably knocking on retirement any day now is sad to call the face of boxing... Except I'm sure a 100million+ fight may loom for him making sure he doesn't retire just yet.
Though the face of boxing really needs to be someone who’s young and can carry the sport for years as did Canelo (whether you liked or hated him). It sucks that it took Crawford so long for folks to start noticing because father time can kick in any fight now going forward. He'll look like a guy who had 5 minutes of fame if that were to happen.

Biblical Moses

Y’all stop hating and being sore losers! I know that Canelo’s loss was very hurtful and painful but your guy lost. So give Bud is proper due and just admit that he was the better fighter that night. Pathetic !
Not "that night." He's just the better fighter.

Not to mention manny and Canelo also had built in loyal fanbases from their countries.
To be fair, his last 3 fights have been in 3 different weight classes and he skipped one along the way. When you're moving up it makes sense to take your time and do it properly.
And COVID was before that. He didn't become a once per year fighter until 2020 when he was already 33.
Well, that’s why I brought up Tyson as an example. He was electric and outrageous. You don’t have to be exactly handsome, but not being handsome and being ugly are two completely different things. Floyd isn’t a good looking guy, but he’s not ugly either. He also, as you pointed out, brought other qualities to the table. Bud doesn’t capture the imagination, and his looks certainly don’t inspire positive attention. They can manufacture an aura around a good-looking fighter who’s just an ok champ, rather than the other way around.Crawford doesn’t have the kind of charisma or personality to be the face of the sport despite being the best in it.
If someone could inject him with just a bit of delusional confidence and personality like Rolly, then he could be the face without question.Rolly the coolest kid in school:cool:

bud does what bud does everyone is different
he has his style and its understated and thats how he is, hes not flash and loud like floyd
i think its a bit too late in his career to be 'the face' of boxing whatever that really means, i mean a big win over canelo should be qualification to achieve this but bud will probably just go home and noone will really hear from him for quite a while, is he going to take on the no1 challenger at 168? or retire or what?

TBud has 3 or 4 fights remaining
I’d have him fight twice next year at 38
then one or two in 2027 at 39
retire undefeated go out on top as the undisputed middleweight king
