Listen, I do not wanna see Manny fight again at 46 and I suspect it ends badly but unfortunately it looks like it’s happening.
So what would a win mean for Pacquiao? He’d be the 2nd oldest fighter to win a world title after B-Hop. He’d be to my knowledge the only fighter to win a world title in 4 different decades (90’s, 00’s, 10’s, 20’s.)
Manny is already a bonafide lower top 10 ATG IMO, would him regaining a Welterweight world title aged 46 potentially take him towards the top 5 or 3?
I think it's a terrible fight and i think the WBC should be banned as an organization if they would sanction that fight despite Manny not fighting for over 4 years with his last win being 6 years ago, and putting him ahead of all the other contenders that are just waiting for a chance. Also the risk of injury for Manny is now significant and the probability that he wouldn't be able to compete with Barrios is also significant. So it's an Ali vs Berbick type situation all over again. It should never happen, there must be other ways to make money for Manny using his name and legacy other than fighting for a title at 46 after such a layoff.
we'll see manny could be a 2 round fighter at this point

He didn’t win that title in the 2020’s. Nobody has ever won world titles in 4 different decades to my knowledge.
Yup, that's true. Nobody else has held titles in 4 decades either though.
For me 46yo Pacman beating Barrios CONVINCINGLY after 5 years out of the ring will be even more impressive than Crawford beating Canelo at the end of his career!
That’s my point. Nobody remembers Lalonde but everyone remembers Ray won world titles in 5 different weight classes, which he was the first to do as at the time as the WBO wasn’t recognised.
People won’t remember Barrios but they’ll remember the accomplishment, if Pac can pull off the upset. Can’t see it myself, I think it’s a terrible decision tbh.
Yes it is and that will remain the case even if he wins. It represents a stunning failure of imagination in my opinion.

Ok got it. I missed the point. My bad.
Boots and Barrios are TBRB #1 and # 2 respectively with the championship vacant. It's a weak division.
It will be a respectable win if Pacquiao pulls it off, nothing more, nothing less.
George winning the true world heavyweight championship at 45 is unlikely to ever be surpassed as a singular achievement in boxing.
The division is very weak atm. Barrios is a very fortunate world champion IMO.
But I do agree the accomplishment would be a huge feat.
The Lalonde fight 2 weight class BS is what makes that stand up imo.
Frankly, the BS draw he got in the next fight against Hearns is more memorable.
Lalonde is sandwiched between hagler and Hearn rematch so that is understandable it’s forgotten.

I didn’t realize Barrios was #2. I guess as the wbc champ he has to be. Yuck.
I agree with your points here.
Not beating Barrios. If this was a top tier ww like Boots, ok.
This wouldn’t be Foreman over Moorer.
I don’t particularly rate Barrios either but the accomplishment would stand up historically.
Donny Lalonde was no great shake but that win still holds up for Leonard IMO. I put it more in that category than Foreman-Moorer.

He already is acclaimed as the only 4 decade champ, since he was still champ in the 2020's, albeit briefly. The WBC being what they are, might let him drag out his title with no or very weak defenses until it gets into the 2030's. And he's already the only 8 division world champ that likely will ever be.

Marlon Starling was a highly skilled welterweight titlist in the late 80s.
Molinares is a POS who won a title from a punch about 2seconds after the bell.
In fairness though starling was throwing after the bell too and got slept
I caught the reference
I take it Mario would be Tomas vs Pac
(if they fight and Pac gets slept at the 3:02 mark of a rd).
Was wondering if Mario ever pulled a similar stunt as Tomas
As it stands, Mario is pretty.......unspectacular.
Marlon was talented
Should be an easy fight for Pac which is why Team Pac picked Mario.
He hasn't, Barrios is a good dude. But in terms of history, thats the level he would be at

Did Mario "Starling" someone ?!?
TBF, I haven't seen many Mario fights.
