hey folks, i remember canelo was scheduled to fight paul williams and i also remember at the time a lot of people thinking this was a "risky" fight or a "big" fight for canelo. can someone explain why to me? i was in a coma in 2012 or something but from what i recollect, paul williams had just been brutally ko'd by martinez, then beaten to a pulp by lara in one of the worst robberies ive ever seen. canelo then signs to fight him...what a great fight?
wat...was this just because canelo supporters were high on their own farts and thought anyone canelo fought was good? williams was shot to pieces and not even ranked. classic cherry pick over a guy with a name but who could no longer compete at the highest level. then again maybe it was just low standards because canelo had been fighting unranked welterweights for so long.
unfortunately williams had an accident and became paralzyed(im sure canelo still wanted to fight him after being paralyzed) so the fight never happened. what do you think about this fight? was it a cherry pick or am i in full hater mode?
Obviously Williams would have to fight smart and I just don’t see him getting sparked to the body
That is why I tell you that Canelo would take a valuable lead in the first half
But after I can see Paul getting the better of him
He never knew how :lol1:
I love how the Lara fans absolutely love bringing up the Williams draw but not the gift draw Lara got against molina.
Whatever supports the agenda I guess
Why old, doe :lol1: ???
The Nelo from GGG 1 vs Paul that fought Martinez 1.
Paul cancels out his advantages by fighting like that
Smothering his own shots and fighting in close quarters.
I feel Nelo has the chin and savvy to avoid the bombs.
Body shots would be the difference

I think Paul would make it close in the second half of the fight and this would have to be with the old Canelo
It be close , real close and I can see Williams winning
those championship rounds
His reach and the fact he fought tall would make it a difficult fight for Canelo
His recklessness might be his downfall if Canelo can get to him while throwing

As for the topic, Paul was always his worst enemy with his reckless abandon.
Throwing 100 punches a round and only landing 10 is counterproductive.
I'd pick Nelo to land his more meaningful shots before PW did.

Clearly, Nelo will be a 1st ballot HOFer and rank on the ATG list.

I just don't trust those cookie things.
I reject Boxingscene cookies :boxing:
He's not wrong about this Scull fight !
I would have preferred a fight with JP than Scull.

Ah no list just a shot at Canelo cause of his opponent: Scull
But he’s been known to have criticized Canelo before

While technically he did beat every fighter he faced, the fights against Lara and Quintana was both terrible robberies, throw the Sergio Martinez fight in also. Nobody outside the paid off, corrupt officials seen anything other than him getting absolutely schooled in rather non competitive bouts.
It doesn't matter what I think the rules are the rules but in cases where we can universally agree the decisions was bs I feel we shouldn't count them, at least I refuse to.
I don't see why millions of people should have to accept the opinion of 2-3 either blind or paid off, corrupt officials. Fights like this should be overturned.
He stopped Quintana in the first round, in the rematch.
He lost to Quintana in the first fight, as in he lost the decison.
Martinez 1 was definitely an either way fight, no robbery.
Lara was a very obvious robbery.
- - Lady Lara couldn't bruise a fly, but he could fly backwards around the ring, so I'd say you're in clueless mode or stuck in glue.
William's is listed as 6-1, but in photos he was significantly taller than Chris Arreola who's listed at ;
Williams last bout was age 30 with the win to finish 41-2, 27 KO with a single KO loss. He also is one of the two to beat every fighter he faced that includes Sergio Martinez and Carlos Quintana.
He was a nightmare because he had a 79" reach, ie 6'7" which is prob the reason they listed him at 6-1 so other welters and later superwelts would fight him. Had fast hands and fast feet and was a high volume puncher which is why he was highly ranked by Ring. He had a reputation as a nice guy which is a shame that auto ran him off the road in his prime years where he was eventually gonna move to heavy.
We have a history section that apparently you don't know about if you want more of the same.
