My favorite example to demonstrate how destructive this thinking is, involves Ricky Hatton. After he beat Zoo as a huge underdog, his father allegedly came on his team and convinced his son to adapt a no risk style of fighting... He wanted Hatton not to lose any fights, it escapes me if hatton had lost a fight at that time, or not yet. Hatton preceded to look like crap and to become a dry h u m p i n g Meme. He fought this ****** way and went to face Floyd and was embarrased. Could he have beat Floyd? i doubt it but he could have done better. In adapting the dry h u m p bugaloo he lost his quick feet, his inside game (he now clinched), and just went down in skill so much... All because his father and his coaches decided it would be the end of the world if he lost a fight after wining such an incredible match with KostaZoo. Just goes to show how ignorance can lead the way Very unfortunate and I had the pleasure of meeting Hatton and actually having a drink with him Good guy and very down to earth

Dude... He literally qualified his entire post in the last sentence stating explicitly: "I am not saying Tank is Floyd." Just sayin. That's a meaningless qualifier when he then used a direct comparison to Floyd's pre-DLH career. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

The Floyd comparison is nonsense because Floyd had faced excellent competition before he fought De La Hoya. Tank has fought trash competition his entire career. Mikey fought very good competition his entire career. Mikey was a battle tested legitimate champion, Davis is a trinket-collecting cherrypicker. He lost to Roach and I had the Cruz fight even. Mikey is an entirely different level of fighter from those two. Davis' best wins remain guys like Pedraza and Barrios. C'mon. Dude... Mikey went the distance with Spence at 147. No way in hell Davis stops him at 135. Unlike Davis, Mikey actually took on challenges in his career and was better for it. Unifications, lineal title fights, Ring title fights, five weight classes. You’ve been around long enough and are smart enough to know that isn’t a valid argument. mikey's style just wont give tank any issues... mikey is a slow pace fighter. he's not exactly a counter puncher. he just fights cautiously and at a very slow pace.. this will benefit tank.

Lipinets was a lineal and TBRB world championship fight, which means Lipinets and Garcia were the top two guys at 140 at that time. Davis has 0 fights against anyone even in the top 4 of the division he fought them in at the time of the fight. The Easter fight was a unification fight. Davis has fought 0 unification fights. The Orlando Salido fight was a Ring world title fight. Davis has never fought for a Ring world title. wow, a ring world title fight. still doesnt change the fact that it was against fighter's not worth mentioning.

maidana was weird, he lost to khan, struggled with shot morales but almost beat floyd in the first fight. it wasnt all luck though if you watch the highlighs/fight breakdowns he did some good things with floyd, he trapped him /controlled space by taking a wide stance to keep floyd from laterally circling out, technical things that made it harder fight for floyd. floyd eventually adapted especially the second fight but maidana did little things that you dont see unless in slow motion to show he was pretty smart. maybe he is like a tyson fury and fights to his opposition idk. floyd idk what was with him first fight, if it was age (he was 37 after all) or if he underestimated maidana also seemed like he didnt adapt as much as usual and idk if that was him actually struggling or him being stubborn and trying to prove a point and fight maidanas fight, second fight he controlled the space and pace way better didnt let maidana fight his fight. When Victor Ortiz was letting his hands go and realized he could manage the punching power he had some pretty good moments before he got tagged with his guard down, as opposed to being starstruck and gunshy earlier in the fight. Maidana might have built his gameplan from that.

Ah ok I don't consider any of those wins great but we have our own criteria. Like for example Hatton at 147 is a nothing win for me. He was terrible above 147. Maidana was poop at 147 with his only notable win being broner? Yikes. If he had beaten near prime hoya Mosley cotto pac etc...but he didn't. Not saying all those were his fault but pac cotto for sure. You get even less credit when you duck for so long then beat shells of fighters Yes you do.
