Nishant Dev is a 24yo Super Welterweight who made his pro debut on Saturday night against Alton Wiggins (1-0-1) and won by 1st round TKO.
Dev was a decorated amateur who won Bronze at the 2023 World Amateurs (after losing to the eventual Gold medal winner via SD) and narrowly lost a MD to Mexico's Marco Verde in the Olympic Bronze medal match. Verde went on to claim Silver but Dev has beaten him before.
In the post-fight interview, Hearn seemed VERY bullish about Dev's chances of success and considers him a potential world champion in the making. He's currently being trained by Shakur Stevenson's ex-coach Ronald Simms so is in good hands.
Aside from Dev and Hamzah Sheeraz (Pakistani father, Indian mother), there are 5 other Indian boxer's of the same calibre.

Disagree re amateurs...he won a World Amateur Bronze after losing a SD to the eventual Gold medallist from Kazakhstan and lost a MD to Verde in the Olympic Bronze medal match. Verde went on to win Silver but Dev has beaten him before. My point being is that Dev tends to go FAR in competitions and only loses to the top guys in extremely close fights.
I agree with the rest of your post though! Dev is indeed a JOY to watch and has a very pro friendly style. I don't know his reach but he's currently being trained by Ronnie Shields who is Shakur Stevenson's ex-coach so is in good hands.
Dev is definitely the BEST Indian prospect in boxing right now but there's another 5 I consider on the same level (excluding 50% Indian Sheeraz).
Winning Bronze often means you won two matches and lost one. That is as far as Dev has gone in a major event. Ronnie Shield is a very good trainer. Dev is above where Sheeraz was a pro when he was at a similar age.
Yes. His international competition in the amateuer suggests he is not all that as he loses as often as he wins. He is a king among the ant hill of Indian vs, Indian competition though!
His combos are crisp. He is a joy to watch. But I need to get a better gauge of his power and durability. What is his reach? Who is his trainer?
I think he is the best Indian prospect in pro boxing...maybe ever.

Haha glad to see you've finally changed your tune Z! As for his 7 losses, 6 of them were against non-Indian opponents but 5 were either SD/MD losses which means they were extremely CLOSE fights in important competitions like the Olympics, Olympic qualifiers, World Amateur Championships etc.

I was very impressed with Nishant in his pro debut and he looked really sharp. His height is 6'1? Does he plan on fighting at 160?
He looked very strong physically and his punches did damage. Hearn will take his time with the "Indian Golden Boy."
Yes he's 6'1 and will probably fight at 160lbs in the future but he does look very sharp at Super Welterweight and seems to have fast hands, KO power and a high ring IQ. Fingers crossed Hearn doesn't blow this golden opportunity because the financial opportunities are limitless.
He looked good. He looked like he belongs as a prospect. I didn't see any red flags but we will have to see as the level of competition improves.
Well said...he passes the eye test and has the amateur credentials but we won't know for certain until he steps up in competition. I just hope that Hearn DOESN'T move him too quickly and allows him time to develop.
I think for the first time in forever, India might have a very good pro prospect that is 100% Indian But he needs to watch his weight because if he moves up in class to 160 or 168 he will need to protect that chin even more.
Dev is a talent but his losses were mostly vs. non Indian opponents. Why do you think that is so? Your theory is ....

I think he was outpointed quite a bit in the amateurs, and his defense needs work. But you will not see Dev being matched with a veteran boxer who is say to #75 - 25 at BoxRec anytime soon.
Having said that, he is a very good young prospect. I think his body type is at middleweight and he will be competing there within 1-2 years. 154- 160 is where boxing sort of changes and you better be able to take a punch vs. others that are not newbies, trial houses or journeymen.
Well see. Check back in two years.
Nishant Dev had an excellent Pro Debut! I thought Dev looked really good and was really well prepared for his debut. I thought the opponent was pretty decent too.
Dev definitely passed with flying colors and delivered imo. Hearn needs to keep Dev active and sharp in the ring. Dev seems like he's totally dedicated and a gym rat. Looking forward to watching more Dev fights!
Hearn is thrilled with Nishant Dev talent and dedication! Hearn mentioned in the interview he believes that Nishant Dev will be a World Champion and also spoke about how excited His Excellency Turki is about Dev and His Excellency called Dev to Congratulate him on his Professional victory debut!

Can't judge him fully yet, but he looked sharp. I will keep an eye on him for sure.
Agreed...he looked razor sharp and seems to possess a high boxing IQ. Although he's still got a LONG way to go it was an eye-catching debut nevertheless.
Think he made a quite good impression in his debut against a (1-0) bit physically in his prime 28 year old.
aware Dev has a good amateur background with Olympic experience, but his shot selection was still impressive nonetheless.
Yes he fought a game opponent (as far as pro debut's are concerned) and took him out in style with a dominant performance. Although it's still too early to tell, he seems to have the speed, power and shot selection to make it to the top in my opinion.
