if it's a year later must be November which suits your story line but pesky facts get in the way - its happening on Sept 14th in Nagoya and was verbally agreed some time ago.

M.A fight would have happened already if he hadn't have lost to Tapales. Tapales beat him and got the 'pleasure' instead - for all the good it did him.
I can't agree that Inoue's resume is much weaker than Usyk's - the issue is that every casual knows about Fury and Joshua but only hardcore fans keep up with the who's who of fighters in the lower weight divisions. The impressive thing about Usyk's resume is all the away fights - that is exceptional.
Ok, my mistake about them fighting in November. I had the Riyadh Season card on the brain.
But is there really much difference between September and November? It’s still almost a year later. After having avoided Akhmadaliev last year.
This article is from October 2024:
Murodjon Akhmadaliev turning up the legal heat on Naoya Inoue

#1 because Usyk beat a decent (but hardly elite) fighter that he already KOed before?
#1 because Usuk's had 2 split decisions in his last 5 fights?
The answer is NO
he was undisputed at cruiser then went and cleared out heavy and undisputed at heavy
a lot of guys moving to heavy want to hand pick who they fight, like rjj vs ruiz. usyk didnt hand pick anyone he cleaned out the division
The original post you’re quoting was made last December. Inoue and/or Bob Arum had been swerving Akhmadaliev for a while then, and Inoue is only now getting around to fighting him this November. Almost a whole year later.

Inoue is fighting Akhmadaliev in September in Japan. He has cleaned out two weight divisions. It's a fluid thing, if Crawford dominates Canelo and becomes undisputed in weight classes then he is the man. If Inoue defeats M.A and beats either Nakatani or a featherweight champion then he is the man. It's fluid.
One thing we can say is that Usyk is the man right now.

What?
Usyk had to step in against a more dangerous group of opponents than Inoue has had to. And Inoue is still swerving his mandatory Akhmadaliev…who has Usyk ever swerved?
do keep up
Sure.
Inoue an Crawfird are beating guys everybody expets them to beat.
90% of guys expected Usyk to lose to Joshua and Fury.
The inverted expectation penalty!
Can't be any good because he beat over-matched opponents. How about the opponents seem over-matched because Inoue and Bud are THAT good
If somebody has to be no1 pfp, why not usyk, theoretically he can be?
Until someone proves that its not the case.
Maybe Inoue if he wins titles at 126. Or if bud cleans out at 154, or beats nelo
After Bud fights Canelo in September, win or lose, he is never making it back to 154 again.
Inoue doesn't have the contemporaries to really do something crazy. And currently is even avoiding the Akhmadaliev mando.
Crawford could beat Canelo I suppose.

I think crawford is great but you have to put some stock into the weight disadvantage usyk has against these guys and more importantly his work in the away corner for so many of his title fights.
One reason I rate Usyk higher than Crawford & Inoue is because he's NEVER been dropped (to my knowledge) whereas Inoue's been down a few times and Bud was definitely dropped by Kava and did the stanky leg against Gamboa. Let's not forget that he fights at Heavyweight where one punch can change a fight unlike the other two.
What I said is that, at the time, Canelo had earned the right to challenge Usyk if that is what he wanted to do. I stand by that.
did canelo want to fight usyk at a catchweight of 201 pounds, i think he did, scandalous even for someone like canelo who liked to slap clauses on everyone he could do, madness
No doubt about it. Well deserved too. Crawford is still living off of that Spence win that happened in 2023 and it’s the main reason why some people still have him as their #1 P4P in 2025. Make it make sense.

Usyk is P4P #1 now surely? | BoxingScene Community
